It's just the final championship game of the baseball season where the winner of the National League Championship plays the winner of the American League Championship in a best of seven series to decide the World Champion, hence the World Series. Kind of like in the NFL where the American Football Conference champion plays the National Football Conference champion in the Super Bowl. Or the World Cup in European football.__________________

It's not "European football". It's more popular in Latin America than it is in Europe. Apart from America, the World Cup really is a world event. Whereas the World Series is an American event rather confusingly calling itself "World". People over on this side of the Atlantic are barely aware that baseball exists.

I know it's not European football. But I didn't want to say soccer and I wanted to avoid confusion with NFL football.
Well, baseball is also popular in Latin America as well. Also in Asia, especially Japan. American major league baseball has players from all over the world. But you're right that it's not really popular in Europe. __________________

The World Series still isn't very "world". And it's been called the "World Series" since long before it became popular in those other locations.
