Really? Well, in the comics it wasn't all that spiritual. He just wanted the gems(not stones) for his own personal power with the intention of reducing the lives in the universe by half as a gift to Lady Death, his true love.
And he did. Half the beings in the universe just disappeared in the blink of an eye, like some rapture event.__________________
