X-Force has a bunch of minority characters -Native American, black Brazilian, Hispanic (Warpath, Sunspot, Rictor, Feral). Use those, don't switch the white characters to another race. Shatterstar as an Asian just isn't Shatterstar any more than Blade as a white guy would be Blade. It's just not the same character when you do that. And I can see how picking Shatterstar as the character to have as Asian fits in with stereotypes of Asian people. Disney Marvel did the same by making Karnak Asian in Inhumans. And Disney Lucasfilm served us up some Asian stereotype characters in Rogue One. It seems none of these guys can do an Asian character without making them a stereotype. Except on Marvel Netflix (Iron Fist's Colleen Wing is cool, totally transcends mere stereotypes). Bring us Jubilee. She had personality. She was an example of Chris Claremont's talent in developing female characters and she's one of Marvel's best Asian characters.

If they do Shatterstar they'd better not chicken out on his gay relationship with Rictor. It's about time something like that appeared in a superhero film.

Edited in: Just read the article and saw along the side that Reg E Cathey died. That's a real loss. He was great actor. I remember him in HBO's Oz. The article on his death mentions him starring in the recent awful Fantastic Four film. That film did a racial switch with the Storm family (Susan Storm, Johhny Storm, Franklin Storm), which his character was part of as the Storm patriarch Franklin, but his performance was the best thing in the film. That said, I didn't like how they did the Storm race switch. They switched Johnny Storm and his father Franklin to black but kept Susan white as an adopted orphan. That was messy and doubly far from the comics versions. They should have made them all black or all white. Susan and Johnny are blood relatives in the comics. I guess they didn't have the guts to make Susan Storm black. But yeah, Reg E Cathey did a damn good job in that mess of a film anyway. I'll miss him.

I agree, sum1. I hate all this race switching because it only reeks of PC pandering. You're right, there's no reason why they can't use any number of ethnic characters in Marvel Comics. This is just Hollywood doing it because they can. They don't care about the comics or their fans, they just care about a quota or something. I don't particularly care for Shatterstar, but still.

I never liked Shatterstar that much either, but I do like things to be faithful to the comics. I'm interested in these movies because they remind me of the comics I read, so when they change things it kind of defeats the purpose as far as I'm concerned.
He was only 59. An awful lot of black actors die young. Like Michael Clarke Duncan and Bernie Mac. And so many of the stars of the '70s Blaxploitation films. It must be something to do with the way society treats black people. People of Irish background in Britain used to have that problem -treated as lower status in society, they had worse health and died younger than the majority of people in Britain. For all I know they still do.
