Well, let's see what happens. I was never much of a fan of Shazam, to be honest.

Well, originally he wasn't. He was taken very seriously when he was Captain Marvel. Then Marvel copyrighted the name, and Shazam is what he was stuck with and things got childish with the whole Billy Batson thing.

The reason that Marvel's comics universe has been incorporating ideas influenced by the MCU is not a matter of promotion; it's a matter of marketing and attempting to attract new readers whose only experience with Marvel characters and properties might be the MCU.

It's the same reason that narrative elements and/or characters from TV series like Arrow and Supergirl have been incorporated into DC 's comics universe in recent years.

And that's not fair to comic book fans who don't want their characters held hostage by Hollywood and their stupid decisions. Oh, and marketing IS a form of promotion. And as far as I'm concerned, new readers whose experience is only the MCU are ignorant and need to be educated in who these characters really are, not to have the comics cater to their ignorance by following movies that will be irrelevant and obsolete in another ten years. You think I want Hank Pym trapped in the fking Soul Gem indefinitely to accommodate know-nothing millennials because of Edgar Wright, whom no one is gonna remember in another ten years? Seriously.

^ Your insinuation was that the reason Marvel Comics had started incorporating MCU elements was to "shill" for the MCU; my point was that your insinuation is inaccurate and that the incorporation of MCU elements into the comics universe is being done in service of increasing consumer interest in the comics themselves.

DigificWriter, as mod I'm going to remind you that you need to be more respectful in tone.

That's basically the same thing. Compromising the comics for the sake of the MCU.

Not even remotely.

I don't really care for the MCU any longer personally, but there's no denying that it is very popular, particularly with non-comics-readers, and there is nothing wrong, inherently, with Marvel Comics trying to capitalize on that popularity in an effort to get more people to actually read the comics by incorporating elements of the MCU into said comics.

Claiming that the comics are being "compromised for the sake of the MCU" misses the point of what Marvel Comics is attempting to do and why it's actually a sound business strategy regardless of how one feels about the MCU as an entity.

Anyway, this is off-topic. Back to the X-Men and Dark Phoenix.

I'm not sure if was an April Fool's Day prank or not, but Hutch Parker apparently commented that the decision to end the XMCU with Dark Phoenix as its "sendoff" was a decision that was made independently of the Disney/FOX sale, and I'm not entirely sure that I believe that.

We're the ones who decide to go back to topic here, because we are the moderators. It would be nice if you remembered that.

"Not even remotely?" Sorry, but yes it is. You disagreeing with me does not change the fact that nothing in the comics would be happening the way it is if not for the MCU, and it is not fair to compromise the characters in the comics for the MCU. I do not want Hank Pym trapped in the Soul Gem and in Ultron's body just because of one irrelevant British filmmaker, nor do I want Hank and Janet cut out of their rightful place in the MCU because of that same irrelevant British filmmaker who didn't even make an MCU movie. That is incompetence on the part of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, business strategy or no. Now we can move back to topic.

Fox's Emma Watts came out to introduce Dark Phoenix, calling it the "perfect sendoff for our X-Men team." The Marvel mutants have been at Fox since 2000's X-Men movie, which is credited with launching the modern era of superhero films.

Watts also noted that Fox will be providing plenty of tentpoles for Disney, now that the former will no longer oversee the Marvel properties, as those will fall under Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.

"We intend to do our part, and it is in that spirit that we will continue to create new stories,” she said, name-checking Kingsman, Alien, Planet of the Apes and Avatar.

Thanks, dragonfire.

I know, Rita. I'm gonna miss the Fox universe.

I really wish Fox had bought all of Marvel's titles, not just X-Men and Fantastic Four, so the MCU could be a Fox universe to keep Disney's hands off of it.

“It’ll be a while,” Feige told io9 when asked about bringing the X-Men into the MCU. “It’s all just beginning and the five-year plan that we’ve been working on, we were working on before any of that was set. So really it’s much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where [the X-Men will appear] right now and more just the comfort factor and how nice it is that they’re home. That they’re all back. But it will be a very long time.”
