 A shootout happens after a game is tied after that 3rd period and goes into overtime. If no one scores in overtime and the game is still tied when overtime is up, they have a shootout where it's basically a one-on-one matchup, with one player against the other team's goalie. And if that player doesn't score, then a player from the other team has to try and score against the goalie of that team that just tried to score.__________________
