Because it's also very emotionally moving and touching. The characters and storylines are compelling and you end up falling in love with them. Even though bad things happen they pick themselves up and go forward.

Well, I did show you those videos of Justin Hartley as Kevin Pearson on the show.

That's just one example.

Here's the episode that's got everyone really upset. The ending of the last episode and the promo for the one coming up.

I know it seems weird to like something that makes you cry, but it also reminds you you're human.

Yeah, but it's not real enough. I think it was James Joyce who said the sentimentality is having a feeling without having to pay the price. The emotions in This Is Us come to easy, too pat, they're not for real. For real would require a little more restraint and hardness.

I merely stated that I was watching Riverdale and The X-Files, and that I was also going to watch This Is Us after the Super Bowl. And you asked me what the big deal was, and I just wanted explain it as best I could.

If it helps you understand a bit why so many people watch it then that's good.

Better that than you thinking it's some type of mass hypnosis.
