Alyssa my eldest is borderline autistic. She receives no treatment for this so who knows what the future holds.

Erika was born with a very bad cough *sounded like an old man who smoked a pipe most of his life* Anyway I have been fighting with doctors for years to get her properly tested as this cough has been consistent for the past 4 years.

Finally she got referred to Yorkhill Childrens Hospital & they are very angry that no medical professional has picked up the fact that yes her lungs are clear & her throat is clear but they should have referred her after hearing the cough for themselves.

Turns out the cartilage in her windpipe is softer than it should be causing her airways to close up.

The hospital xrayed her & will determine where to go from there.

Prayers. I know several parents children that have zpecial needs in some wsy and these children are so precious. people dont reliaze just how special and smart they are. The summer after my senior year i worked summer program and the group I had was special needs. This one boy who was servaly autistic had my heart on the first day. He was so sweet and so smart even though he couldn't verbalize in words anything he coperend everything and defintly was very crafty he knew how to get what he wanted and he was good reletively at math. I am curently in retail and there is this one down sydrome girl about five wh who captures everones heart. people dont relize they are specil smart and most of all a blessing till they know someone that has a special needs child and that child tugs thoughs heartstrings.

I'm sorry to hear the doctors haven't been giving the necessary treatments for your children.

Do you know for a fact (ie, with a diagnosis) that your eldest child is autistic? If so, and she's made the borderline mark, that does not mean she isn't entitled to extra support, the sort an autistic child would get.

Yes she has been properly tested etc. She is under the school specila needs sector. She has most of the signs ie being overly sensitive to smell, sounds etc but because she makes eye contact they cant say full autistism but borderline *makes no sense to me either lol*

She may struggle with somethings in life but she has her heart set on becoming a midwife or a doctor when she grows up.

I'm a special needs teacher - my entire class is autistic and we give them the specialised support they need but if shes in a mainstream school - they wont get that support. Its sad really

Thanks Jenny. Our children have severe behaviour needs so it is by no means easy - but they need our help the most.

I have 50 years experience with working with special needs population(I am 57).
Raised 2 special needs kids both in their 20's now and still at home.
Both within AS
