My cleaning lady came yesterday, so things are pretty good right now.

She does the actual cleaning. Floors, dusting, fridge, bathroom, kitchen... that sort of deal. I do the rest: laundry, dishes, putting my crap away.

Like most asthmatics, I'm allergic to dust, so it's genuinely difficult for me to keep on top of anything where dust will be moved around. It's like an instant head cold for me. So, yeah, she does the stuff I can't or don't want to do.

And when she comes on days/times when I'm home, she's also my Spanish teacher. I used to be able to speak Spanish pretty fluently, but it's been an age and, without practice, it goes away. So she helps me with that.

I still have my few Christmas decorations out, given that I can't physically get to them yet. I am a little tired at looking most of them though.

Sunny I think she makes a huge difference in helping deal with your health issues. Your place is clean, it's nice to have someone be able to do the things you can't easily do, or that aren't good for you to do.

She's not just a maid. She's a friend, a teacher... and a lifesaver, honestly. But, yeah, her help isn't free.

As Kim says, though, it's a load off my mind and off my lungs.

when we have to have the house deep cleaned when I have my immune issues it's definitely not cheap, it's worth every penny though and much cheaper than a hospital bill

My son's also asthmatic, and I have to thoroughly hoover his room each week. Dust mites are his worst allergy.

^ Did you know that putting pillows in a freezer (one that's presumably large enough to house a whole pillow) for about 10 minutes kills the dust mites in it?

Could be an old wives' tale.

Anyway, I would enjoy keeping the money I pay the cleaning lady. I'd miss her terribly, because she's awesome. But it wouldn't suck to keep that money. The thing is... I don't think I could keep the house clean. It's not even a matter of "pushing through" the discomfort or whatever. When I push dust around, there comes a point where breathing actually hurts.
