Watched 'The Mummy' (2017). That wasn't very good either, another one a bit blergh..

I'm two seconds away from watching Dad's Army.

I was raised in the wrong country (and possibly in the wrong decade) to know much about the TV show, but I thought I'd give it a go.

I gave it my all, but I couldn't hack it, which really sucks because I like pretty much every actor in that cast. But it was a bit too camp for my taste? Or something. It was hard for me to get attached to the characters and so the plot stuff couldn't hold my interest.

that's just how the show was, from what I recall.

I got the sense that it was very faithful to the original, probably to my detriment since I never did see it. Because there really was no part of it where you got to know the characters. And it felt like a lot of the jokes hinged on you being "in the know" of who was who and so forth.

It really was. I would try it again, in the same situation, you know?

I love those actors, I generally enjoy British comedies. I just didn't get the very specific references on this one. That was the only "problem."

and surely that's at least some part down to it being based on a show that ended in 1977 and was based in WW2.
