Vanessa Anne Hudgens was born December 14, 1988 to loving parents Gina and Greg in California.
From a very young age, Vanessa knew that performing – whether it be acting, music or dance –
was in her soul. She had a number of theatre roles growing up, in shows such as The Hunchback of
Notre Dame, The Wizard of Oz, The King and I and The Little Mermaid. Her first feature film role was
in the Catherine Hardwick directed Thirteen in 2003, followed by depicting Tin Tin in the 2004
release of Thunderbirds. However her breakthrough role was playing Gabriella Montez in the
DCOM High School Musical in 2006, which she reprised in 2007 for High School Musical 2
and a third time for the theatre release of High School Musical 3 in 2008.

Vanessa’s world has been a whirlwind ever since, in 2006 playing the recurring role of Corrie on
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody; releasing her debut album V in 2006 and her follow up
Identified in 2008; touring with the High School Musical Concert as well as
promoting her albums. Her depiction of Sa5m in the 2009 release of Bandslam has received
critical acclaim and cemented Vanessa’s role as a talented force to be reckoned with. She will next
be seen in Beastly, slated to be released in 2010; and then in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch
currently slated for a 2011 release.

We are first introduced to Gabriella Montez in High School Musical 1 where a fated encounter
being forced to sing karaoke at a ski lodge teen party on New Years’ Eve ignites a hidden passion for
music and performing within the shy and stage fright ridden teen. Gabriella moves to Albuquerque
with her mother and faces yet another tough adjustment, trying to fit in at a typical high school filled
with stereotypes. In the past Gabriella would’ve easily slotted in with other academics, having led
her previous decathlon team to victory. However Gabriella is determined to berid of this stereotype,
delving into her newfound passion for singing at the encouragement of newfround comrade Troy
Bolton. Along with Troy, Gabriella revolutionises East High, proving that you can be a freaky math
girl, a performing superstar and be friends with the jocks.

The summer has finally arrived and High School Musical 2 is the setting for all the fun that goes
with months without having to worry about school, homework or detention. Gabriella is determined
to make the most of her summer, elated that for the first time she is able to spent it with her friends
rather than move to a new city. A summer that starts with promise thanks to jobs at Lava Springs
Country Club becomes tainted. Gabriella places her friendships and loyalties above all else and feels
betrayed by Troy when he begins to focus on his quest for a basketball scholarship. Ultimately
Gabriella is able to focus on her friends and explore new friendships, and with a little matchmaking
on the part of the Wildcats, all is set right in time for the Lava Springs Talent Show.

High School Musical 3 saw Gabriella determined to make the most of her time that remained at
East High with all of her friends, throwing herself into the East High’s Spring Show ‘Senior Year’ with
gusto and working as co-editor of the yearbook with best friend Taylor. Not only is she accepted to
her number one college choice, but she is invited to attend a prestigious Honors Program which will
mean abandoning her friends and responsibilities at East High earlier than anticipated. She faces the
toughest of battles, choosing between her head and her heart. Ultimately Gabriella learns that you
can follow your dreams without compromising your friendships and relationships.
