Actually, I think Gabriella was valedictorian though.

But apparently they sometimes get someone popular/influential to give these speeches.

The valedictory speech at my HS was made into a competition not awarded to the one with highest honors.

And I love his praise for Gabriella. I'm not a huge Gabriella fan, but there's just no way around the fact that she is the catalyst in all that's changed at East High.

Exactly. And I think that he mentions her, not because he cares about her so much but because she really was so instrumental to East High turning into what it was.

Exactly. It's not so much of Troy declaring his love for Gabriella, it's just him giving credit where it's due.
