“What’s the theme of the summer talent show Sharpay?”
“Redemption. It’s a very trying year ladies... My drama department was invaded by outsiders.
Singers coming from the chemistry lab and locker room. Shocking really.”

“I told you to hire Troy Bolton, not the entire East High student body!”

“Henceforth, do clock in and out on time.
Three infractions of any kind and your employment is terminated. Chop chop chop!”

“Dude, what have you gotten us into?”
“Come on, we can totally turn this thing around!”

“College costs a fortune. My parents are saving pennies unlike the people at this place... I always
liked the idea of being in charge of my future, until it actually started happening.”
“So let’s just think about right now!”

“I’m so excited about the club’s talent show! I mean, the employees
get to do a number! And I have ideas for everyone.”

“Ryan, it might be wonderful if Troy participates in our talent show... I’m not certain Gabriella is ideally suited to help Troy realise his full potential at Lava Springs.”

“I think the U of A Redhawks would be very interested in him.”
“That’s inspired Daddy! Troy is very concerned about college.”

“Daddy’s on the board of directors at the University of Albuquerque.”

“That is such a great idea Troy! We could do it at our club talent show.”
“Being on stage really is your thing, it’s not mine.”
“It could be... our thing.”

“You’re not going to be a Wildcat forever... When you graduate lots of people are going
to be chasing the same opportunities... Never be ashamed of attention as long as you’ve earned it.”

“I’m promoting you. There’s an opening as an assistant to the golf pro’s. Five hundred dollars a week plus.”
“Per week? That’s off the hook!... I think it sounds very manageable.”

“We’ll lock up your scholarship with a high C from center stage.”

“Come scrimmage at our gym.”
“Play? With you guys?”

“There’s a guy out there who looks just like Troy Bolton
but I have no idea who he really is.”

“Don’t worry I’ll find a song for you somewhere in the show… or the next show.”
“Really? Don’t strain yourself, slick.”

“I can’t believe how things are working out here!”
“It just doesn’t seem like new stuff, it seems like a new Troy."

“I thought we decided doing the show would be fun.”
“We don’t know how to put together a show!”
“But he does! I know what you can do Ryan so why don’t you do it for us?”

“Hey Evans. I’m not saying I’m going to dance in the show… but if I did…. What would you have me do?”

“I know everyone thinks that I’m Sharpay’s poodle…”
“Hey! If they were thinking that they’re not thinking that today.”

“We didn’t vote you captain because of your jump shot! We did it
because you’re the guy who usually knows what’s up. But I guess things change.”
“I don’t answer to you!”
“Then maybe you should start answering to yourself!

“When did you become one of them?”
“You know I think I’ll take that as a compliment.
But you and Troy have a good show sis.”

“All Junior Staffers will be required to work on show night. No staff participation in the show will be allowed... It’s Fulton’s orders.”
“There’s no way this was Fulton’s idea.”
“Unless Fulton suddenly has blonde hair and wears designer flip flops.”

“You don’t like the fact that I won.”
“What’s the prize? Troy? The Star Dazzle Award? You’re very good
at a game that I don’t want to play. So I’m done here. But you’d better
step away from the mirror long enough to check the damage that will
always be right behind you.”

“If along the way you act like someone you’re not pretty soon that’s who you become. I wanna remember this summer. But not like this Troy.”

“You know I ever wanted to hurt you.”

“We might find a place in this world someday, but at least for now I’ve gotta go my own way.”

“I don’t even know who I am anymore.”

“It’s no good at all to see yourself and not recognise your face.”

“What do you mean you’re not doing the show? We’re singing a duet Troy!
A duet means two people. Well mostly me in this case.”
“I’m more interested in what my friends think of me and what I think of myself.”

“Brothers fight.”
“And they’re still brothers.”

“I’ll sing with you Sharpay I promises and I keep my promises.
I do the show if the Wildcats do the show.”

“I just sort of wish you were doing this for me. You’re a good guy Troy.
In fact right now I think I like you better than I like myself. Did I just say that?”

“Once in a life time means there’s no second chance. So I believe that you and me should grab it while we can.”

“Live everyday.”

“The Star Dazzle this year goes to of course the one and only…”
“My brother, Ryan Evans.”

“When you dream there’s a chance you’ll find a little laughter or happy ever after.”

“Here’s to the future.”

I watched this movie today! Even the title scene is magical. It's just so amazing. Gahhhh.

I love the way it opens up, showing us all the key locations of East High we first came to know and love in the first film.

^ When we've spoken about how the film in many ways doesn't have that linkage to the first movie, that opening montage for me is quite important. On that simple level it's that reminder of where they've come from and where they are now

I think it's a very pivotal moment since it is the only thing that links back to HSM1 (except when Troy is working Fulton and the guys mention Gabriella in relation to karaoke). That's the one downside to HSM2...

I think the fact it took place over the summer, away from East High, is a huge part of why there's not much direct relation from the first film to the second. Which is why I was estatic for HSM3 and the halls of East High once again for #3. Not that it wasn't great seeing the Wildcats in a new environment - it allowed both them and us to learn more about themselves during that summer.

We did get those little linkages - I love that reference the guys make to singing karaoke It's hilarious, they're teasing him just like real teenage boys would if they knew their friend had gotten into a karoke night You get kinda lost in that Lava Springs world and then in scenes like, back in Troy's room when he's sulking, seeing all the East High stuff... it's like woah, flashback!

I love how they tease him when he answers the phone, and Jack's comment about when Gabriella calls, "He just blushes."

Aw, I loove the pictures he has in his room, especially when his dad lays the frame of the pic from his championship game from the previous year down on the bed - that was a great little touch that took you back.

That scene with the boys and Jack is just epic Jack is effing hilarious. If Troy found out that he'd told them, he'd be mortified

There's also Sharpay's reference to the first movie when talking to the Sharpettes by the pool

Exactly! I missed the halls of East High save from the beginning of the movie, but HSM2 was still fabulous. To me it seemed as though it could be a movie on it's own, not related to those...more like a HSM2 on Holiday film.
