Casting is underway for the fourth story of the celebrated "High School Musical" franchise, a classic story set against the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights.

"The creative challenge for 'High School Musical East Meets West' is to deliver every element that the audience expects, and then re-invent those elements in a bold new way. Clearly, we're thrilled to have our screenwriter from all three 'HSM' movies back, along with our producing and songwriting teams. Adding a dynamic, imaginative, visual stylist like Jeffrey Hornaday as our director/choreographer introduces the perfect catalyst to take this team to the next level.”

"I'm excited to be part of a franchise that, thematically, encourages kids to believe in themselves," said Hornaday. "Like the first three movies, my goal is to keep the art form of the traditional musical alive, yet bring a contemporary emotional response to the story and its characters through song and dance."

Hornaday choreographed "Flashdance," "A Chorus Line," "Dick Tracy," "Captain Eo," "Carlito's Way," "Shout" and "Romancing the Stone." His directing credits include world concert tours for Madonna, Paul McCartney, Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey, Reba McEntire and Lionel Richie.

The executive producers of "High School Musical East Meets West" are Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush and the producer is Don Schain.

I love Kenny but I think, in the same way that I want the cast to move on and do bigger and better things, I kinda want the same for Kenny at the same time. I think if they're going to pull it off it is going to have to have an entirely fresh vibe. They can't try to emulate what has been done because it will fail if they do that. I'm keeping an open mind about it, I won't judge until I see the product.

I was sad to hear Kenny wouldn't be a part of it either anymore. But as some of you have said, I think that maybe it's best this way. It'll be a new cast, a new director, so it should be interesting.

I'm glad Kenny's not involved because aside from having the same title it now feels completely detached for me, which is the way I want it to be.

Yeah. I don't want to feel like it needs to be living up to something or whatever. Plus Kenny is doing some awesome stuff at the moment, being seen out and about with MJ and all

This is why i'm glad that none of the original wildcats decided to stay on for HSM4. They are all onto bigger and better things.

Has anyone heard anything about HSM4 lately? I know most of us are a bit skeptical but I'm still interested to hear what is happening with it

I haven't heard anything.

I'm skeptical, but I know my curiosity will win out in the end and I'll watch it regardless of that.

I was always going to watch it, I knew that the moment I heard about it, but at the same time I wished they could have just kept it at HSM3.

I don't necessarily have objection to it when there's none of the main cast involved. If any of them had come back, I would have shaken my head and told them to get the eff out of there and go out into the big world. The movie musical is back and the reality is that now any movie musical that is made of this sort (set in high school) will be compared to HSM - so as long as Disney are going to make an all human movie musical set in high school, why label it as something else? It would be considered another HSM anyway.

Do I think it'll have the same magic? No, probably not. But if its got singing and dancing and they've hired a cute guy to play a lead role, sure I'll watch, what is the harm in watching?
