Exactly.

I always feel uneasy about how Troy gets full blame for what happens as well, but Sharpay deserved to get that blame. And it's definitely not only Gabriella who's the victim of her antics. Literally everyone is, including Ryan and Troy.

I think Troy gets the brunt of the blame because of the promise he made to Gabriella at the beginning if summer. He basically shat on that and his friends for a possible scholarship. To Gabriella that offense was personal.

I also think that Troy gets it worse because people expect that behaviour from Sharpay and not Troy. But yes, Sharpay manipulated Troy into doing her dirty work and he just didn't handle it very well.

I always feel more obliged to feel sorry for Troy because I get where he's coming from, especially since he says so very early in the movie that he's scared of the future. I can't blame him for falling for her schemes since she plays it so well.

But on the other side, I do get why Gabriella and the rest are so angry at him, and I get why Gabriella feels so betrayed by him.

Basically, I can see both sides of the story, I guess.

I think his friends wouldn't have minded so much if he had just been straight with them about why he was doing it from the start rather saying he'd do all these things with them and then blow them off last minute. They would've understood.

Oh yeah, that is true.

But I guess they also should have realised what Sharpay was up to (especially Chad. Hell, Chad knows. He just shakes his head at Sharpay and never warns Troy.)

I'm just really protective of Troy, obviously.

I guess I just think everyone was a bit too harsh on him?

I think they did realise and had hoped that Troy had too, but he didn't.

I get both sides and really either way someone is getting hurt.

I think he did know what she was doing, but he just couldn't find a way to get out of it without hurting his chances at that scholarship? I think he really was a between a rock and a hard place.

True, but even if she was the one who originally got him connected, it was his skill that kept them interested. But I guess with Sharpay it's hard not to offend her.

Unfortunately for Gabriella, that's something Sharpay was counting on using to her advantage.

I'm kind of glad Sharpay learnt her lesson after that summer.

In HSM3 she meddled, but not on the same level as she did in HSM2.

I feel like in HSM2, her meddling was the main reason why Troy and Gabriella were on the rocks and in HSM3, her role in their relationship crumbling is not as significant.

Troy knew what was up. He was walking a very thin line. Sharpay's shenanigans helped to tip him in the wrong direction. Sorry, I can't see him being "the dumb jock" with this one. He's a people pleaser which gets him in the most trouble honestly.

Oh, I definitely think he knows what he's doing and he is absolutely a people pleaser. That's his biggest, most obvious flaw and it's his downfall in both in the first and second movie.

It just bothers me that Troy gets blown off as a douche because I don't think he had any malicious intent. Was blowing off his friends several times wrong? Absolutely. But I don't think it was his intention to hurt anyone.

Oh definitely not. Even at the end of HSM2 they trick Troy into singing so that it's not him that is purposely hurting Sharpay.
