| Small Twilight Problem? Okay, so this has been bugging me for awhile. Now before I go on, I'd like to say that I do know that Stephenie Meyer is not unlike other humans -- she makes mistakes. And I don't hold a grudge against her for this one. So anyway. You know how Victoria wanted to kill Bella because Bella's love, Edward, killed her own love, James? Well, he didn't kill James. Jasper and Emmett did. It says this, plain and simple, on page 461 of Twilight. I quote, " "What happened to James?" "After I pulled him off you, Emmett and Jasper took care of him." There was a fierce note of regret in his voice. This confused me. "I didn't see Emmett and Jasper there." "They had to leave the room . . . there was a lot of blood." "But you stayed." "Yes, I stayed." " It's obvious Edward isn't lying either, because of the "fierce note of regret" part, and because, of course, he wouldn't have left Bella when she was hurt just so he could get revenge on James for hurting her. And he wouldn't have taken care of him right in front of her, for fear of frightening her. Then we get to New Moon. This is from page 240, where Laurent meets Bella in the meadow. Now he's explaining why he's there. " "She's sort of . . . put out with you, Bella." "Me?" I squeaked. He shook his head and chuckled. "I know, it seems a little backward to me, too. But James was her mate, and your Edward killed him." Even here, on the point of death, his name tore against my unhealed wounds like a serrated edge. Laurent was oblivious to my reaction. "She thought it more appropriate to kill you than Edward -- fair turnabout, mate for mate. She asked me to get the lay of the land for her, so to speak. I didn't imagine you would be so easy to get to. So maybe her plan was flawed -- apparently it wouldn't be the revenge she imagined, since you must not mean very much to him if he left you her unprotected." " And then, on page 314-315, when she's first talking to Jacob after she finds out he's a werewolf, and Victoria and Laurent come up in the conversation. Jacob asks her if she knows what Victoria wants. " "Of course," I whispered. "She wants me." His eyes flipped wide, then narrowed into slits. "Why?" he demanded. "Edward killed James," I whispered. Jacob held me so tightly that there was no need for me to clutch at the hole -- he kept me in one piece. "She did get . . . pissed off. But Laurent said she thought it was fairer to kill me than Edward. Mate for mate. She didn't know -- still doesn't know, I guess -- that . . . that . . ." I swallowed hard. "That things aren't like that with us anymore. Not for Edward, anyway." " So obviously it's not just that Laurent and Victoria were under the impression that Edward killed James -- Bella thinks it too. At least, from New Moon on. She obviously believed Edward's story in Twilight. So this is a mistake, right? Or am I missing something? Did anyone else notice this? It wouldn't really bother me if it wasn't for the fact that if Edward indeed didn't kill James, part of the conflict in New Moon, and the whole main conflict in Eclipse, are based on a mistake. Am I right? Please reply and tell me waht you think. | |||

but remember the butterfly effect... if the cullens had never been in forks, who's to say that tyler's van would have spun out of control and started heading for bella? | |||
