Yeah, but I thought that that's what all the fuss was about? The fact that Taylor isn't Native American. That's all I saw, negative comments about him not even being Native American. It was endless, but yet Steven Straight - a white guy, right? - gets some sort of pass. I don't understand the double standard.

It's not a double standard. We said initially that we'd prefer an unknown Native American like the original casting call stipulated, but if they were going to change their minds about that and go with a non-Native American actor (like they seem to be doing) we'd much rather have someone with a little more acting experience and Jacob-ness. Steven Strait is that someone.

Have you researched Native American actors? Do you have any particular one in mind that you could post? There has GOT to be some out there. But I never see them mentioned or used on manips and arts, and that's always baffled me. Jacob is a full-blooded Native American and yet the actor everyone has chosen to represent him is...well, not.

Do you know what I mean? It just makes me wonder sometimes if it's the character of Jacob people like, or just Steven Straight, himself.

And why are all the new Kalama pictures deleted from TM?

Did anyone save them?

I'm always here on my own when you guys question me on Jacob.

I can honestly say I did Google Native American actors as soon as I knew that the Twilight movie would be made. And let me tell you, it was very hard to find someone suitable. Yes, they have whole websites dedicated to Native American actors, but when there's like 5000 names listed only in alphabetical order, how do you go through them all looking for the right sex, age, size and qualities in order to find someone perfect for the character of Jacob? You can't. And just because I'm curious, which of the tons of actors with acting experience do you think look more like Jacob? Because I know we have very different pictures in our heads.

If you're wondering whether people like Jacob as a character, or just Steven Strait himself then maybe you should visit the Jacob thread's and have a look. And I have to say, I had Jacob-love very early on, when the books first came out, before I even knew who Steven Strait was as an actor.

tons of actors that look more like jacob to YOU. and no offence but you dont know what jake looks like. you dont have the same perception of him that we (people who like/love jake) do. steven strait is the only person that could possible play him, unless a native american is found. they had an open casting call, and they didnt find anyone that they liked. otherwise im quite sure we would be fine with it. but if they are going to pick someone random. he's it.

just like you guys were certain there was no one else for edward but gaspard.

everyone loves steven as jake, because he has the quality, that we see in him. its degrading to us, that you think we only want steven to play jake, because hes attractive.

Well I'm not exactly on the forefront of knowledge when it comes to Native American actors, that's why I asked you actually.

But, see, Jacob looks nothing like Steven Straight, that's for sure. Steven Straight is white.

I'm just assuming when I say that there HAS to be other guys out there. I'm from L.A., and every body wants to be an actor.

The S.A.G. is filled with men who can act that would look more like Jacob, as he is described in the books. What makes Steven Straight more qualified than any other dark-haired white actor?

2- (Still the rehearsal scene with the Volvo)This was like the third or fourth take and he had the car backed up so he could pull in, and this time he started to take off and there was a HUGE grinding sound… he had forgotten to release the ‘E’ brake!!!! HAHAHA!!!! It was the best! ^^

3- They were now shooting from the behind angle, Bella and Edward walked to the front doors of the school, and when they got there, instead of opening the door(I’m not sure if he forgot how to open it, or what) he kicked it!!! Everyone started laughing at the point! ^.^ Silly Rob!"

No one?? Taylor was massacred! With Steven, everyone's just like, "oh a little make up and a wig and he'd be fine."

Just admit it. Someone please just admit it and make me happy: Steven Straight can be Jacob because you all think he's hot! End of story.

Personally I don't care if the actor is Native American or not as long as he can pull off being Jacob.

But I think that the reason people are doing it is because they would prefer a Native American unknown, or someone who is established and could pull off the role like Steven Straight.

I looked, I really looked, but I'm telling you it's not the easiest thing in the world to find Native American Jacob-y actors. To you Jacob looks nothing like Steven Strait. You have a very different view of Jacob than a lot of us do, and therefore you see him differently. To us Jacob-girls Steven Strait has something. The X factor that we see in Jacob that would really work on screen. And that grin. He has the perfect smile.

No he's not. And neither was Taylor. But Taylor didn't have any of the qualities that us Jacob girls see in Jacob. Maybe it's a one or the other type thing. I'd be happy with a Native American actor who was maybe missing one or two Jacob qualities but if they're going to go with a non-Native American actor I really want someone who can be Jacob with all his Jacob-y goodness.

Well, I'd rather an actual Native American, since they tried to be accurate in every other sense. But I personally could care less. I was just playing devil's advocate for poor Taylor, who simply because he is not considered gorgeous by everyone is being told he can't pull off Jacob.

He's a very established actor for his age, so I guess my point is that I don't see why there is not even an attempt to accept who they chose as Jacob. If he were "hot" would he be okay then? You know? 'Cause, I mean, he is the perfect age. And the bigness thing can always be altered with CGI. Look at Hagrid from HP.

They make that dude look HUGE.
