All I caught was that one of the girls was also named Jessica, and the boy who noticed me was named Jacob.

"I’m Jacob Black. You bought my dad’s truck."

But I really did like Jacob. He was someone I could easily be friends with.

"Can you believe my dad paid me twenty bucks to come to your prom?"

"He said to tell you, no, to warn you, that — and this is his plural, not mine, ‘We’ll be watching.’"

I’d forgotten how much I really liked Jacob Black.

"Wait a sec—are you legal yet?"

Jacob was simply a perpetually happy person, and he carried that happiness with him like an aura, sharing it with whoever was near him. Like an earthbound sun, whenever someone was within his gravitational pull, Jacob warmed them. It was natural, a part of who he was. No wonder I was so eager to see him.

"I believe that… we have a date."

Jacob was waiting for me. My chest seemed to relax as soon as I saw him, making it easier to breathe.

"Jacob, you are absolutely, without a doubt, the most talented and wonderful person I know. You get ten years for this one."

"Bears don’t want to eat people. We don’t taste that good. Of course, you might be an exception. I bet you’d taste good."

"So are you going to be my Valentine? Since you didn’t get me a fifty-cent box of candy, it’s the least you can do."

"I told him you were planning to corrupt my youthful innocence."

He was my best friend. I would always love him, and it would never, ever be enough.

"As long as you like me the best. And you think I’m good-looking—sort of. I’m prepared to be annoyingly persistent."

There was nothing left in my life at this point that was more important than Jacob Black.

"Who’s afraid of the big, bad wolf?"

Like we were connected, the echo of his pain twisted inside me. His pain, my pain.

I knew that last glimpse of his face would haunt me until I saw him smile again.

"I think I might have been wrong before, you know, about not being able to be friends. Maybe we could manage it, on my side of the line. Come see me."

As we walked, I felt myself settling into another version of myself, the self I had been with Jacob. A little younger, a little less responsible. Someone who might, on occasion, do something really stupid for no good reason.

Jacob had become a part of me, and there was no changing that now.

"I miss you every day, Bella. It’s not the same without you."

"Did you seriously just stamp your foot? I thought girls only did that on TV."

"But I’ll never see anyone else, Bella. I only see you. Even when I close my eyes and try to see something else."

"Does my being half-naked bother you?"

"What’s it like — having a werewolf for a best friend?"

"Hey, it’s the least I can do — I offered eternal servitude, remember. I’m your slave for life."

"I’m in love with you, Bella. Bella, I love you. And I want you to pick me instead of him. I know you don’t feel that way, but I need the truth out there so that you know your options. I wouldn’t want a miscommunication to stand in our way."

"You love me, too. Not the same way, I know. But he’s not your whole life, either. Not anymore. Maybe he was once, but he left. And now he’s just going to have to deal with the consequence of that choice — me."

While he slept, every trace of defensiveness and bitterness disappeared and suddenly he was the boy who had been my very best friend before all the werewolf nonsense had gotten in the way. He looked so much younger. He looked like my Jacob.

"You could kiss me, for example. I don’t mind if you want to use me to experiment."

Jacob was right. He’d been right all along. He was more than just my friend. That’s why it was so impossible to tell him goodbye — because I was in love with him. Too. I loved him, much more than I should, and yet, still nowhere near enough. I was in love with him, but it was not enough to change anything; it was only enough to hurt us both more. To hurt him worse than I ever had.

It made no difference that Jacob was not human when he cried out. I needed no translation.

"I’m exactly right for you, Bella. It would have been effortless for us — comfortable, easy as breathing. I was the natural path your life would have taken… If the world was the way it was supposed to be, if there were no monsters and no magic…"

"I would have been healthier for you. Not a drug; I would have been the air, the sun."

"How can we be friends, when we love each other like this?"

"I probably won’t think she’s good enough for you. I wonder how jealous I’ll be."

Rachel. How are ya doing?

Ok girls, I have to ask you all something. When you read the Twilight books, and finished with Eclipse, did you know already that EB were endgame, cuz SM talked about it, or knew how BD turned out to be, and if you didnt, didnt any of you think, even for a bit that it had to be JB in the end?

Its weird cuz after I read Eclipse, I hadnt heard about BD, even though it was out and all. And I really couldnt see anything but JB in the end after Eclipse. I really hoped that Bella would grow a brain and see that years passing meaning something, seeing her grandchildren, living with Jake was so much better than the other alternative. But I noticed that most knew that our ship had sunk after Eclipse.

When I finished Eclipse, i was convinced that it was going to be JB, then I get online and discover that SM said that EB were endgame, my heart broke and I concluded that it wad all ridiculous. Then I heard about BD, hated the book without even reading it and concluded that it was all insane.

Yes I knew that EB was endgame in advance, before even starting the series at all. This is compared to the Harry Potter series, I lived through the anticipation and release of the final two books (having gotten in to fandom after OoTP was released) and genuinely had hope for H/Hr right up until the end, even despite the horror that was HBP. So reading that DH epilogue was probably the most crushing moment I have ever experienced in any fandom, I was devastated. It was pretty damn horrible and not something I'd like to relive. But knowing the outcome ship wise going in to the Twilight series meant that I'd already made peace with it before I started, and meant that I could read the story without wondering if every other line was a hidden clue or subtext for one couple or another, basically it was a lot less nerve wracking and meant that I could enjoy the books without rose tinted glasses and bias for one side or another.

I'd already suspected from what I'd heard that EB went against everything I stood for and that JB sounded much more up my alley, and despite keeping an open mind to both, that was exactly how things played out for me. Knowing that JB weren't the final couple didn't really bother me too much, I just enjoyed the beautiful and true relationship between these two characters and relished watching them fall in love. It was done so beautifully and realistically that I almost felt like I personally was falling in love. Them not being endgame wasn't important to me, I knew in my heart they were the right choice, and that was more than enough.

I read the books, expecting to hate everything. The fandom made me hate it, its got the worst fandom according to me. Very nasty. And I wasnt spoiled, all I knew was that EB were supposedly epic. *excuses herself to throw up a little* Jake, I had heard very little of.

I know it in my heart too that JB were perfect for each other, but since there was a moment for me where I was unaware of how the books ended, and I hoped and could see them ending up together, it shocked and upset me that they didnt.

If it were a trilogy, i wouldve made peace with it all, knowing that JB were the only meaningful part of these useless but annoyingly addictive books. Eclipse left the triangle in a much better way. At least the fanbases could interpret it like they wanted to. Nothing was so final.

But BD is what kills me. I mean even the Deathly Hallows epilogue seems kinder than BD. At least it was 600 pages or so shorter.

I read the books before Breaking Dawn came out, however I knew that EB was endgame. The way Steph Meyer had written Eclipse, it seemed Edward and Bella were going to end up together.

However...I was still going to read Breaking Dawn (lol I never got around to it & will never read it) because I figured maybe Steph would write the last book in a redeeming way (I thought Breaking Dawn would have Bella as a vampire, struggling, seeing it wasn't so easy, learning to love Edward as both vampires). Then when I heard BD was written like f-ing fanfic, I stayed away

I still think the books are a trilogy in my mind. Eclipse ended the love triangle in a very simple, nice way. It did not tie anything up in bows and it allows both "Teams" to enjoy their ships. A person can ship EB and another person can ship JB and it really doesn't get ruined (unlike what I have heard of Breaking Dawn). Thus... I think of the Twilight "series" as the Twilight Trilogy.

BD crushed JB. And even made shipping them look ridiculous. Vamp!Bella just lost all those kind of feelings for Jacob overnight, and Jake was cooing happily at the demon baby.

And I knew that JB weren't going to end up together when I started reading the books. Court told me their story pretty much but I just had to read it for myself so I went in already loving JB and disliking EB. I think though that even if I hadn't known how it was going to end I would have known it was going to be EB. They were shoved down our throats all the time about being each other's mate and epic and blah blah blah that they had to end the series together.
