When a mysterious fire destroys their home and kills their parents, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent to live with their distant relative Count Olaf, who forces them into servitude.
One night, the siblings prepare puttanesca for Olaf's theatre troupe only for him to demand roast beef upon arriving home. The children then state that they were never asked to prepare roast beef,
angering Olaf and prompting him to slap Klaus across the face when he protests about the sleeping arrangements. Meanwhile, a mother and father are held against their will by a mysterious captor.

[PART TWO]

Saw it. This one has a good mix of humor and sadness

Sunnyolaf 01-14-2017 09:30 PM

This is the only episode I've seen so far. I've decided to pace myself with them. I really enjoyed the first episode. If it's anything to go by the series will be wonderful.

I adore little Sunny so darn much. She is such a cutie and her biting things is cute. I also really enjoyed seeing Patrick Warburton in this. I think he is a great addition to the show.

Added, thanks Rose. :)

I agree. From the get-go this episode was really enjoyable to watch. I love the show's dark humor. Sunny is the most precious thing indeed. I also adore Justice Strauss. I know we're not supposed to like Count Olaf but he is just so despicable that I find him amusing. Poor Baudelaire kids. :( I also agree about Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket, very wonderful.

Also, Robin & Barney reunited in this show is sooo amazing but I still hate that HIMYM finale. :D

Just watched this episode and I agree with you guys, it's a really good start to the series. It's got the right mix of humor and drama. :)

I really loved all the interactions the siblings have had. Especially Violet and Klaus. :sigh:

And yes, little Sunny is precious indeed. :D

Neil Patrick Harris does make a great Count Olaf. He really brings such a surprising charm to the role. And same with Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket. :)

fox24 01-15-2017 07:54 AM

I think your supposed to hate but also be amused by Count olaf judging by both Jim carrys and Neal Patrick Harris portrayal of him

L i N d $ @ y 01-16-2017 02:13 AM

I read the first book (which this episode is based on) and they really remained faithful. I'm so pleased. :)

Acting-wise, I don't think anyone was subpar. And this ep was the introduction to the whole series and what misfortunes await the Baudelaire's so it was nice to see that. Everything from the children seeing Mr. Poe at the beach to meeting Justice Strauss and her pointing at Count Olaf's house: that was all in the book.

MyLastDayWithoutYou 01-16-2017 03:38 AM

I love it
the cast works well together, great casting for the siblings
i was shocked when the boy was slapped by Count Olaf
i cant wait to learn more about this mysterious book
great twist at the end with the parents

One Thing Remains 01-16-2017 08:06 PM

I loved this episode so much. It was the perfect mix of darkness with humor which kept it light and fun while still be serious/heavy in some scenes.

I really love the Baudelaire's. Mr. Poe is so clueless that it's comical and Count Olaf is fun. Even though he's evil I can't help but like him. Buy maybe that's because he's being played by NPH whom I adore.

Just watched this, I thought it was a fun episode, set up the story of the show quite nicely!

I love that they're smart kids, gives me hope that they'll find their way out of this mess hopefully somehow (I have no clue where the story is going so just go along ;))

My intention is to not see them all at once either ;) So I'll join you on the slower pace.

Patrick Warburton is really good! I love what he brings to the show
same for Neil though I do feel I have to get used to seeing him in this character but I do think he does it well!

Those kids are just wonderful! All 3, though I think violet and sunny are my favs :D
