What Do You Remember About US Pres. Reagan?

Thought I'd open up this discussion, since President Ronald Reagan passed away this week. His administration lasted from 1981-1989, so he certainly shaped the 80's political environment.

Reagan was the first president I knew of, really. I have vague memories of President Carter, but I remember more about Reagan. My parents were "Reagan Democrats" - the many democrats who supported this republican president. In fact, we even had a picture of him sent from the white house.

I remember the assasination attempt. It happened when I was in grade school. Our class wrote a letter to Mrs. Reagan, and we each received a letter in response.

I remember the speech in Berlin, when he says, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall."

I'm not really intending a political discussion so much as sharing particular memories we have of his administration.

I remember when he was elected president.

And the assasination attempt, of course.

And, shallow as it may seem, I was a fairly regular watcher of Falcon Crest and I often kept thinking that 'aww, Jane Wyman could've been first lady of the US).

I remeber mostly that the guy who attempted to assasinate him was obsessed with Jodie Foster.

I remember thinking.."Does he really think that she's gonna date him after that?"

I also remember that Brady guy getting shot in the head. I felt so bad for him.

I remember how he was included in the storylines of Family Ties. The character Alex Keaton was a big fan of Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan even said in the 1980's that Family Ties was his favorite show. I was little in the 1980's so besides the references to him from Family Ties, I do not remember much about him during that era.

Since the US presidential election is hot stuff at the moment, I figured this thread could be of interest.

Thanks for the bump, Maxi.

It's funny. I was watching a re-run of Saturday Night Live the other week. It was an episode from the 80's. The guest host was Ron Reagan, the son of Ronald and Nancy. They did several presidential skits that night.

I remember some stuff about him back in the day like the summit with Gorbachev in Iceland back in 1986, which i remember very well, because it was on a Saturday morning and the networks decided to interrupt the cartoons to show it, which annoyed me.

Z - things like that reminds why I'm upset I didn't get SNL back in the day. In fact, I still don't have access to SNL. :grumbles:

Sydney - That Genesis video is so much fun. I love it!

Hot Rod - the eighties surely is a decade where a lot of things happened when it comes to the relations between the countries
