Tim Burton Appreciation Thread - Because He's The King Of The Macabre

Tim Burton first appeared on the scene in the early 80s with two short films, "Vincent", and "Frankenweenie", both shot in black and white. Then, in 1985, he got his big break with "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". Tim rounded out the 80s with two big classics - 1988's "Beetlejuice" and 1989's "Batman".

Of course, Tim continued to be one of the most brilliant visionaries of his time into the 90s and 00s with "Edward Scissorhands", "Batman Returns", "Ed Wood", "Mars Attacks", "Sleepy Hollow", "Planet Of The Apes", "Big Fish", "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory", "The Corpse Bride", and "Sweeney Todd". Next up : "Alice In Wonderland" in 2010.

Tim is my favorite director after Steven Spielberg.

Jenny - It wasn't until just a few days ago I had even heard of 9. Lol. Tim is just a producer, but it does look burton-y!. Lol.

T- Bag's Girl - I can't wait either. Here is what he has cooking : "Alice In Wonderland" is his next film. Out this spring. Two others he has in the pipeline include a 3-D stop motion animation film on his early short film, "Frankenweenie", and a film version of the old 70's vampire soap opera "Dark Shadows", with Johnny Depp.

Can't wait to see what the creative mind of Tim Burton comes up with.

So that's what "Dark Shadows" is! Just looks like an oddly filmed soap from the land that time forgot.

While I love his early classics best, I feel like "Alice in Wonderland" was just *made* for a director like him.

Jenny - I'm glad you liked it. I'll probably check this one out on DVD.

T-Bag's Girl - I can't wait either. A new Burton film is cause for celebration!.

playgroundDiaries - Thanks!. Yeah, for a while I had no clue what this weird, old soap was. Lol. But it sounds interesting. AIW does seem like it was made for him, as was "Sleepy Hollow" I think. Certain material and directors just match.

I've heard "Alice" is pretty trippy. Lol.

I just got the "Nightmare Before Christmas" DVD and it is beyond awesome. It also has both of his early 80s short films, "Frankenweenie" and "Vincent" on there. It's a great package if you don't already have it.
