"Stripes" is a 1981 comedy directed by the great Ivan Reitman(Ghostbusters, Meatballs, Twins, Kindergarten Cop). Bill Murray plays John Winger, a slacker who realized his life is going nowhere and needs a new direction. He and his buddy, english teacher Russel Zinsky(Harold Ramis, "Ghostbusters") join the army on a lark. They are sent to a fort and they believe it will be fun and games. Soon, the two find themselves in a very daring mission : rescue their fellow army buddies and drill instructor behind the Iron Curtain.



The movie also stars John Candy, Judge Reinhold, John Larroquette("Night Court"), Sean Young("Ace Ventura"), and P.J. Soles("Halloween", "Carrie", "Rock And Roll High School")

One of the best 80s comedy classics, "Stripes" is funny, and one of the more oft quoted films of it's time.

Thanks for letting me know about the movie. I'm not much for Army movies, but it could be funny.

I'm not either, but it is a comedy, and their group of guys are buffoons. It isn't until the end that it gets a little war-like. Joe Flaherty from "Freaks And Geeks" has a small role as a Russian border patrol.
