i watched this the other day->

Arguably spielberg's worst film!
it stands out like a beacon. it was wedged in between close encounters of the third kind (1977) and raiders of the lost ark (1981)! and what was also surprising, the writers of the script were bob gale and robert zemeckis, the co-writers of back to the future!

So, nothing could possibly go wrong here? can it?

this film is so bad, it should have killed off spielberg's career

it was marketed to be a comedy, but it did not get a single laugh out of me. and three comedy legends were in the cast: dan aykroyd, john candy and john belushi.
the score (by john williams) did not match what we saw (it was overbearing)

but the funny thing is: that awful film is influential for many films we did see further down the track!
Gangs of new york or even dunkirk!

and the sets (eg tanks, planes) were nicely designed for a big budget hollywood film.

That is one I have only seen bits and pieces of so I can't really comment on it. Surprising, I know.

the funny thing is, you havent missed anything by not watching '1941'

its a freak occurrence of how you wouldnt think anything would go wrong in a film: spielberg being director, bob gale and zemeckis (the writers of back to the future) are the writers. john williams (a legend in his own right) scoring the music. expensive sets. dan aykroyd, john belushi and john candy are comic legends who will bring the comedy.

Yet the film ends up being a whole lot of nothing!

How can that be?

It's mind boggling. Just think - If he hadn't of done it, then it would of been Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders and E.T. in a row.

spielberg simply could not do comedy

there was a real problem with the tone of the movie 1941, where it seemed serious, and then you had some overacting that seemed out of place!
it had me puzzled, thinking-> was that supposed to be funny?
