I don't know Barry since I was born around the time this came out so I can't say for sure. Both of those seem like logical reasons. Was it advertised with details about "Pretty in Pink" ? If so, I'm more apt to agree with the second option you said.

I don't think it was advertised like that. Not anything that I saw. I just think the wave was over. I don't recall other teen movies later in the era of being as successful as the earlier ones either.

Yeah that makes sense. Teen movies kind of hit a plateau by this point with some good ones in the 90s but not as memorable, at least that's my opinion.

I think it's cute of how perfect director Howard Deutch wanted the painting that was done of Amanda (Lea Thompson) in the movie. I guess the writing was already on the wall at that point that he was taken with her in real life. It is a nice love story they have.

I didn't know that about the painting. It's a very sweet story. I knew the director and Lea eventually married though and they're still together.
