Here is an appreciation thread for that great actor who brought to life one unforgettable 80's icon, Freddy Krueger. The one and only Robert Englund :





Englund has had a very long and varied career in almost every type of entertainment. He is a classically trained, Shakesperean actor who has done broadway, television, films, voice work, and has written and directed. One of my favorite non-Freddy roles in the 80's was his portrayal of the title character in the 1989 film, "The Phantom Of The Opera".

Also, this October, Robert will release a book titled Hollywood Monster : A Walk Down Elm Street With The Man Of Your Dreams.

Obviously, Freddy is his main claim to fame, but he's just a cool character actor as well. That book is going to be great!.

Lol. Thanks. I am making lists of new threads to make. Some very well known, some a little obscure.

Robert is just cool in my book. He has a cool look, a cool voice, and is just a great actor. Plus, from what I have heard from just about everyone who knows him or has met him, he is a truly nice guy. In the original Nightmare, he had what I think to be the scariest performance I have ever seen.

On the Robert front, he will NOT be cameoing in the new Freddy film, which was met with a lot of disappointment at Comic Con.

I agree, although Jackie Earle Haley is a great actor. Still, Freddy is Freddy because of Robert Englund.

Why he isn't in the movie at all or doing a cameo is hard to say. I have heard various things. The makers say they are re-booting it and wanted someone new and younger. Some say Robert proclaimed he was too old and didn't want to do it, and other sites said he was willing to do it but no one asked him. So, who really knows. As for the cameo, no one has said why there isn't one. Robert publicly stated that he would love to do a cameo for the film, but alas, they didn't bite.

I don't watch, but Robert is going to guest star in the Halloween episode of "Chuck" this season. Playing a mad scientist. I may have to watch just for that.

Yep. No other Freddy. I've heard people who had no idea what he looked before see him for the first time and say "that's Freddy!" You just know.

Robert is 64 today! Some places say 62, but Wikipedia says 64.
