From Curtis' book:
Curtis: "They want me to play a character named Booger who belches and picks his nose? I won't do it." Agent: "They are offering this amount." Curtis: "Okay, I'll do it." __________________

The scene at the party where Poindexter takes his first joint and then has that laugh was supposed to be actor Timothy Busfield's impersonation of Ted McGinley (Stan) when he took his first ever puff at an after hours party. Curtis says Ted was as straight as an arrow but they got him to try a joint. It did nothing but then he burst out laughing in a corner minutes later.

The movie's test screenings were thru the roof and it was a box office success. It grossed $40 million on a $6 million budget. $60 million when you include rentals. However, the studio never got behind it and treated it like a mistake.

Curtis did not enjoy making Part II. He said the script wasn't collaborative like the first director had on the first film. A couple nerds either weren't there or had cameos. They had a director who wasn't into it and was very experienced.

I don't think a remake would work in today's world. Sure, there are "nerds" today who are on the outside like the ones in the movie, but nerds are more "in" nowadays than they were in the 80's.

Since I have been finding and bringing up news on how some of our 80's movies had TV series based on them or pilots that aired or never aired, I was going to say I am surprised this didn't have one. But guess what? It does. Another unsold pilot.
