Queen - A Kind of Magic

Queen Appreciation Thread

Queen are a British rock band formed in 1970. Queen consisted of vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor. The band became popular with audiences via their hit singles, live performances, originality and showmanship, being voted the greatest British band of all time in a national BBC poll.[1][2] Their 1985 Live Aid performance was voted the best live rock performance of all time in an industry poll.[3] According to the BBC, Queen have sold more than 300 million albums as of 2009.[2]

Hey, I know they started in the 70s, but they continued in the 80s. Anyway, love their music. I just bought tickets to see One Night of Queen.

Thanks for starting this thread. Queen without question are one of the greatest bands of all time. They have such a great sound that is impossible to duplicate, especially the outstanding voice of the late great Freddie Mercury. While i prefer their stuff in the 70`s, Queen made some pretty good song in the 80`s like Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Under Pressure and Another One Bites The Dust.

Anyway here are some 80`s pics of Queen.

Thanks for the vids and pics. I agree that they had a lot of great songs in the 70s.

Sad how they lost Freddie.

I'm interested to see how Gary Mullen does at One Night of Queen.

Thank you so much for making this thread. Queen is my favorite band of all time and I was just listening to some of Freddie's solo stuff when I saw the thread. Those photos are great too. I can't believe it's been 18 years since Freddie died.
Melis, you're going to be very pleasantly surprised with "One Night of Queen" I think. I saw them last spring for my birthday and the show was great. In addition to great musicians behind him, Gary has a lot of the charisma Freddie had. He joked with the audience, especially with stuff related to where he was performing (Kentucky) and sang with them and it was just awesome.

Yes!. How cool!. I love Queen. One of my favorites of all time. A great thread Melis!. I first got into them in the early 90s, right around when Freddie died. They had a unique sound all their own. They broke the mold when they made Freddie Mercury. Truly, one of the most outstanding entertainers of all time. He is missed big time.

I don't know who this Gary Mullen is, but I know they toured and performed recently with Paul Rodgers from Badfinger, who is great in his own right. It's wonderful that Brian May and Roger Taylor are still out there, but you really can't be Queen without Freddie. Irreplaceable.

Thanks for telling me Catfoley. It sounds great. They have a lot of shows lined up, so I guess people do like them.

I probably started liking them in the late 80s, but I didn't really know who they were. I just heard their stuff on the radio and liked it.

Oh definitely Barry. There's no substitute for Freddie.

There is no substitute for Freddie, never will be, ever. I admire Brian and Roger for still doing tours, music, etc. If anything I do think they're good authorities to decide how the Queen name proceeds though since their band together before Queen is what led to Queen. Also, the CD they put out with Paul Rodgers was pretty good. I own all their CDs plus some of the guys' solo work so yeah I'm kind of obsessed. I got into them in high school, years after Freddie sadly left us but not a day goes by that I don't listen to them at least a little bit.

Yeah. I have "A Night At The Opera", "The Game", and "The Works", and I have a few on tape - "A Kind Of Magic", "Innuendo", "Made In Heaven", and 2 different "Greatest Hits" compilations. I got a tape one year of their 70s videos too.

I have "News of the World" on tape but only because it's one I took from my brother in my early days of getting into their music. I have it on CD and because I'm a fan of collecting them, I have it on LP/vinyl too.

I'd say their best album is either A Night at the Opera or A Day at the Races.
