It is pretty amazing all the effects they were able to do and all the creativity with the 80's movies when they all had small budgets. The budgets for the 80's films averages out to $5.7 million. You look at the remake, which was $35 million, and you wonder where it all went. The 80's films had more money on the screen with those small budgets in just one scene than the entirety of the remake with a much larger budget.

Crystal Clear

My favorite Nightmare films were the first and fourth. Loved Nancy and Alice as the heroines + their relationships with Glen and Dan. I thought those two films had the best casts.


I've always bore a grudge with the third film, for how John Saxon's character was treated.

I do love the fourth as well. Some don't because it was the turn when Freddy came more into the light with more humorous lines, but it is a great film. Such a rollercoaster filled with so much fun stuff, set pieces, creativity, use of color, etc. Nancy and Alice were great heroines.

Part three is a huge fan/critical favorite. It is definitely one of the strongest films in the franchise. For many, including Robert Englund himself, it is the best. Sure, they turned John into a drunk, but it was still well done. He has been through a lot and lost a lot.

For anyone that is interested, SyFy is ditching their annual 'Twilight Zone' marathon tomorrow for the 4th and having an 'Elm Street' one instead.
