The Monster Squad(1987) - "My Name....Is Horace!"

I hadn't seen a thread yet for this 80's classic, so I thought I would start one myself.

Anyone know this one?.

A few people have described it as The Goonies Meet The Universal Monsters. Lol. A young boy(Andre Gower) and his friends have to save their small town, and the world, when it is overrun by Dracula and his gang og fiends - Wolfman, The Mummy, Creature From The Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein. It was directed by Fred Dekker, who also directed "Night Of The Creeps", another 80's cult classic.

Like The Goonies, I thought The Monster Squad had a bit more of an edge, with some surprising kiddie talk, for a family adventure film. That's one of the reasons I, and so many others, liked it. Lol. It was a fun and entertaining film that didn't get the justice it deserved at the box office, but soon made up for it on video and now, thankfully, on DVD.

You're welcome!. I checked the whole board to make sure that there wasn't one already. To tell you the truth, I was kinda shocked that there wasn't.

I remember renting this a number of times as a kid. I was so glad when they released the special DVD last summer. I love it!.

I know Im glad they release the dvd as well. I like the scene where Frankenstein sees the little girl and later on, she shows him to the boys and they freak out.

Yeah that was a good scene. "Come on, don't be chicken ****". Then Frankenstein pushes the kid down. Lol.

The sneakers scene was gross where they tried to get the big kid to eat the candy bar from the ground but than the bully eats it instead.

Such a great movie. Sadly, it's getting the remake treatment from Michael Bay's production company, who have done the remakes for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, Friday The 13th, and the upcoming Elm Street re-make. Make it stop!.

I've spruced up the first post a little. Added another picture and the trailer. I plan to do more.

Not sure if that would be a good thing. It depends on who he is casting. is the trailer out yet?

No, there isn't even a script yet as far as I know. This was just announced, so there isn't much of anything yet. On the plus side, Rob Cohen, who was a producer on the original, will be a producer on this one too and also wants to direct it. One of the other producers said they are going to keep the spirit of the original and that they are going to "age up" the squad a bit to reflect the times.

The producers of the remake, the same ones behind the Elm Street re-boot, are already talking about possibly changing and having different monsters in the remake. My headaches are beginning to manifest. Lol.
