The last unicorn appreciation thread

This was one of the first movies my mother showed me when I was a little child and I immediately fell in love with the music, the storyline, the drawings and all that stuff. At the moment I'm even listening to "The last unicorn" by America, I love this song so much. So well..at this board there are already a lot of threads of my favorite movies and I guess this movie deserves a place here too.

I love this movie so much! I own the VHS and would love if it came out in DVD for region 1. I also have the book but haven't read it yet. I think it's so great that the author of the book also wrote the screenplay.

I just looked on IMDB and there's a remake being made, scheduled for release in 2004. It has most of the same cast doing the voices.

Yeah, I was a bit confused by that too I mean it would be great if they would show it in the cinemas again but well...maybe they add a few extra scenes Don't know, I guess we have to wait for further informations!

It's not going to be a cartoon...It's going to be part live action and part CGI...
I think it will be awesome!!

It's going to be a real movie? At the moment I can't imagine how they want to turn this awesome cartoon into a movie. I hope they don't mess anything up or well...don't know I'm just curious about it!

Thanks for the info and the link. I was thinking it might be live action because I really didn't see the point in remaking it as another animated film. The info on IMDB is so vague that it sounded like it was another animated film though. It's really cool that most of the same people will be in it- and that the script is once again written by Peter S. Beagle.

Go out and buy the book it's based on, if you haven't already. Beagle's a wonderful author, and The Last Unicorn is easily his most popular book.

EDIT: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is playing Schmendrick? :::wince::: could be worse, but I always imagined old Schmendie a little different. Best of luck to him.

Is it still in print? I'll have to look for it...I love the movie, and I heard that the book was great. (from other people as well)

Yes, it should still be in print, or at least on the shelves. Last I checked, Barnes and Noble still stocked the "Special Anniversary Edition". Other editions can be found in second-hand bookstores, as can other older works of his. If all else fails, use Amazon.com

OMG! I totally forgot about that movie! I loved that when I was a kid. I used to collect unicorn things then. Thanks for the wonderful memory!
