Johnny Carson Dies at 79

Johnny Carson, the King of late night, passed away this morning in California. He was the predecessor to Jay Leno as host to The Tonight Show and I'm sure most 80's children will agree that he was the ONLY host of that show.

I couldn't go to bed at night until I watched The Tonight Show. If I couldn't make it through the whole show, I made sure I at least watched his monologue. I remember his final show very well. Jay Leno is enjoyable, but he's no match for the master.

He was very much a part of my 80's memory book.

Aww, that's so sad. I have to admit, I never watched any late night back when he was on), but I saw clips of his interviews and stuff and he seemed like such a good guy. May he rest in peace.

He definitely was one of the good guys. He brought quality and class to late night. Most successful comedians got their start through Johnny Carson - Gary Shandling, Jerry Seinfeld, Drew Carey, Joan Rivers, David Letterman, and of course Jay Leno.

Only 4 days ago, CNN reported that Johnny Carson was David Letterman's secret writer. The man was talented even late in life.

Yeah, it's all over the news now. Celebrities and "normal people" alike have such high praise for him. Sad to see such a beloved man go.

And to be honest, I don't like Jay Leno. He seems like a nice guy and all, but he doesn't have a funny bone in his body. Love Letterman, but my fave is Conan.

You what's so eerie about Carson's death? That Ed McMahon is outliving him. Nothing personal against McMahon but whenever I hear his name the first thought is on all that junk mail with his image on it saying "You Won A Million Dollars!" And that's not even mentioning the commercials he did with the same company.

I think the main guys were Ed, Johnny, Doc Severinsen and Freddy de Cordova. I don't know what happened to Doc but I know Freddy's dead because I read about it in the newspaper.

I agree that Leno is no match for Carson. I adore Conan O'Brien! I remember his first show after Letterman left for CBS. I didn't think Conan would last back then, but he totally came into his own.

Hehe...Publisher's Clearinghouse!

I didn't realize Fred de Cordova passed away. Whatever did happen to Doc Severinsen...

I bought the Johnny Carson Tonight Show DVD collection this weekend. I've been meaning to buy it for a long time. Now, it's especially important to me to keep the laughter alive.

Oh, it's out on DVD? How :goes to add it to her ever growing list of stuff to buy, someday:

Leno is the show I watch most often, but it's mainly because it's the only show I get on a regular basis. Well, I don't like Letterman, so I avoid his show. I've seen Conan a few times, that's true, but not often enough to have an opinion about him.
