Male names don't usually drop off in popularity like female names do. Certain boy names will always be popular simply because fathers name their sons after themselves. You have your Michael, Jr and your James II.

Michael and Christopher were the top boy names in the 80's, and those names are still in the top 10 boy names. Jennifer, Melissa, and Amanda are no longer anywhere near the top for girl names. In fact, they are not even in the top 50. Interesting.
