The 80s - Friday the 13th TV Series (1987)- No Jason/Crystal Lake here

When I first saw this show I seriously thought it was a tv show for Jason in Friday the 13th but this show has nothing to do with the villian

Heres the plot for the show here

An old antique dealer made a pact with the Devil to sell cursed antiques. When he dies, his store is inherited by his niece Micki and her cousin Ryan. With the help of Jack Marshak, they fight to retrieve the antiques from the people who bought them to stop them from causing harm.

I adore this show. I use to watching it back when I was 12 every saturday night. First soap would come on and then this show.

I watched this show every time it was on. I've forgotten the eps but I clearly recall the vanity mirror one where this not so pretty girl uses this mirror to make boys fall in love with her.

Was one of the leads named Micki?

OMG I LOVE YOU ALL!! Actually, they are not out on DVD officially but my cousin transferred the copies of the vhs version to dvd and made copies so I have the entire series on DVD!

I'm making screencaps and there are really good places online to look stuff up about the series!

I had the HUGEST crush on Ryan *hehehe*

OMG! There is soo much chemistry with Micki and Ryan it's insane! I alwayys wondered what would have happened if John D. LeMay stayed on!

And yes Micki and Ryan are cousins but as stated in the pilot, 4th cousins and maybe further. They're just distant relatives. Surprise. Surprise! LOL.

I love how Micki wasn't into the idea of dealing with the cursed antiques and how Ryan is this artist! Also, I love that even though there were tragedies in their lives, Ryan and Micki stood side by side

Anyhow, I will be making screencaps!

There's an amazing site called the 13th Hour which is based on F13th Series! The design leaves a LOT to be desired but it has loads of content!

LARRY B. WILLIAMS, Co-Creator: Steven Alavansky was a creative executive at Paramount when they opened their syndication division in the 1980’s. He was their number two guy behind Mel Harris. Steve and I became friends when he was working as a producer on a film called Blood Beach, and I had also just written my first feature, SpaceCamp - I ended up with story credit on that. So when Steve got the gig at Paramount, he knew my writing, and contacted me and asked if I’d have any interest in bringing ideas to Paramount for a television series based on Friday the 13th, because they were looking for a way to make it work. All they had was the title. And as I remember it, they were trying to avoid using Jason so as not to have to pay money to the rights holders if he, or any other characters from the films, were used. But even by itself, the title Friday the 13th would carry some weight. I thought it was an impossible task, that people were going to reject the show outright if they turned it on and Jason wasn’t there. But I still wanted to make some connection to Jason. So I started noodling it in my brain, and I came up with my own mythology. I said that Jason was Jason, but if you put that mask on anybody, they’d become evil. Then I took another step back and asked, “Where did he get that mask?” Then I had my key. So I started thinking about “The Haunted Mask,” and Faust. I thought, “Here’s the pitch. There’s a shop in New Orleans and the guy is going broke because his things aren’t selling and what he needs to do is make a deal with the devil, who brings in objects and a manifest. And the devil’s deal to the owner is, ‘You will get wealthy selling this stuff, but if you break with me, I get your soul.’” So I came up with the notion that if I had a shop where everything was haunted, and if at the beginning of every episode we’d show the front of the store, that among forty other junk items in there we’d have, hanging from a string, the hockey mask turning and glinting. That was my suggestion- but it didn’t get incorporated due to the fear that they would have to get and pay for additional rights to use the Jason character.

FRANK MANCUSO, JR: My initial approach was still to change the name of the series. I felt the title would work against it. Eventually, we did this focus group study were we showed them an episode. And it turns out there were people interested in it, but who wouldn’t have sampled it if it was called Friday the 13th. So I said to Paramount, “We just got the best answer in the world. If we change the title, people will watch it. Call it ‘The 13th Hour’ and make it more like The Twilight Zone.” And still Paramount said no.

Personally this is the first show I tuned to watch every Saturday or was it Friday? LOL in Chicago late late night!

I'm more than willing to add some info, and perhaps make clips for a trailer!

Honestly the concept is amazing and fun! It's like a fusion of Supernatural meets Buffy.

There's humor, drama, and great characters! I really really wished they'd revive this series! Same premise but new actors for the roles!

No Problem! I've seriously have been trying to find people who remember this show! It's my hope to make vid clips of the episodes and caps.

Sci-Fi Channel use to air it, but not anymore. I really really wish they would air the series again! It's been a while, maybe there could be a petition for fans to ask sci-fi to buy the rights to re-air them once more.

I love Louise Robey aka Robey as named in the series credits. I remember thinking she was the prettiest actress on tv with her BIG 80s hair! And she's a redhead which is cool because you don't see many natural ones on tv.

Okay here's a fun question.

If you were asked to cast the new series 13th Hour (sorry but I dunno about Friday the 13th going over too smooth these days. lol) who would you cast?

I'm seriously addicted to this series! Actually as I've watched the series evolve I've become such a fan of Micki/Ryan aka MR or Miyan.

God! It's sooo hard to have people get into this show because it's been soo long!

I know there's a petition to get it out on DVD. I don't understand why it hasn't come out yet

FAVORITE EPISODES

Pilot (Inheritance) - I LOVE how Micki and Ryan first meet. lol. Right off the bat, there was a nice balance and simpatico with those two

Cursed Object: Doll (shivers. that is still the creepiest looking doll ever!)

Tails You Live, Heads You Die - Definitely an emotional and great episode!

Cursed Object: Ram's Head Coin (ability to grant life as well as take away)

Pipe Dream - Yay! We get to see more of Ryan's background! Awesome stuff!

Cursed Object: Smoking Pipe (lol, love the f/x, mysterious orange cloud chokes you and evaporates you into thin air!)

A Mother's Love - Okay, I dunno why but this episode really disturbed me...a woman is given the diagnosis to abort her baby because it is dying inside of her and even if she carries it to full term the child won't survive outside the womb. The woman doesn't give up, and refuses to do it. She's in denial that her child is sick or dying.

She carries the child to full term anyhow, and is given this cursed baby crib. If the child is in it, the child will live; the catch is to kill like 9 people in order for the child to gain full recovery.

As you can imagine killing 9 people wouldn't necessarily be an easy thing to hide.

Anyhow, as the story progresses, it's just disturbing how delusional and manic she is about her child. Meanwhile, her poor husband is the one she's put up to kill for her.

What makes Friday the 13th a remarkable series is how much of a platform and standard is within modern horror series. Series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Supernatural owe this series some credit! Supernatural series that dealt with humor and drama simutaneously like this series is rare.

Again, I'll try my best to see what I can do about searching online for clips. I'm surprised it hasn't been YouTubed yet...

Anyhow, that link I provided gives you a LOT of access to finding ways to get deeper look into the series.

What I LOVE is how completely 80s this show is! From the hairy, to the fashion.

Cool! Well, just keep in mind it's an 80s series, and there's an aspect about it that's just...well, it's entertaining, and not as in-depth as x-files drama but you'll see
