Even though it was already announced that they have a writer for the sequel, Blumhouse head Jason Blum has said they haven't gotten the rights to sequels yet.

it's being written right now and when a script is looking good, Blumhouse will seek the rights to make more sequels. Jason Blum says he could easily see himself doing 10 sequels, but guarantees at least one more. I don't expect anything right away but with how successful last year's film was, it literally makes it rock solid true we'll get another one!

I heard that he contacted her to voice his support for the director/co-writer, David Gordon Green, who he just worked with who was doing the new film. I guess in that way it helped her to think more about it.
