Because he was dumb at first, but he worked at it and figured it out. A lot of new teachers start out learning and not doing so well. You get better.

Yeah, he did mature. I remember when he made a science discovery. The textbook was incorrect. Luke thought he was the coolest.

Sometimes I don't think GP gets a fair shake. Yes, it all seemed so nice and perfect and maybe they were, but there were other things. I mean, Jason and Maggie had their hands full with Mike (although it all seems so quaint and tame now), and there was sibling fighting and bickering, and so on. Maggie and Jason had their tiffs here and there and not talking. Plus, I think the show had some sly humor here and there.
