It was a shock. Dad was so mad.

I wanted to be on a dance show even though I couldn’t dance.

I agree. I loved the cheesy dancing.

It's a good thing Janey's dad came to his senses in the end. He could have caused some real embarrassment after he went down to the studio.

She got what she wanted.

Being an adult now, but without children. I can see why the father was angry and upset. He was a military man and they tend to be overprotected but given Janie was 16 and seemed like she had a good head on her shoulder. I don't see why he needed to be that overprotected. Even if they were in a new city. Especially in the 80's when the world seems much tamer than what teenagers today or in the 90's faced. It's all about the plot. She needs to do it in secret to get the happy ending in the end...
Because the father knew it wouldn't help to make a big scene when it was televised. And then her best friend seems to get on the ride with the instant substitution for Rickie who walks out. It was a classic 80's ending... A fun. Love the dance off. Very gymnastic instead of dancing but still fun and you fall for the love story. It fun movie! Great memories of watching it when I was a kid. |
Like you said, he was a military man. They can be very strict.
It was a fun ending. I'm glad that Lynn got to be a part of it. Yeah, I thought I was the only one who noticed that she was doing gymnastics. |

My parents wouldn't have allowed it either.

Oh my gosh! I forgot about the dinosaur hair clips!

She was kooky.

This was definitely the 80s. No one would be allowed to just walk into a TV studio and walk right up to the set as their were filming live TV.
