Field of Dreams - "If You Build It, They Will Come!"

Field of Dreams Appreciation Thread

An Iowa farmer hears a voice in his cornfield accompanied by a vision of a baseball field. He takes it as a sign to build a baseball diamond which would ennable Shoeless Joe Jackson of the infamous Chicago "Black" Sox to play ball again.

I saw this movie for the first time last spring!. Lol. Such a good movie. Very nostalgic for a place and time and very Americana. I loved it. Kevin Costner's best movie in my opinion.

I haven't seen it in a while. I was young when I saw it for the first time. I didn't think I'd like it, but I fell in love it.

I don't really like most sports movies, but this one was kind of touching.

Me neither, but this movie wasn't just a "sports" movie, you know?. It was very touching, and very nostalgic, and very magical. Great, great movie.

Yes, there was more to it than the baseball.

I love this movie, my Dad and I like to watch it together. I admit I have a certain fondness for sports movies, especially baseball movies even though I’m so not interested in sports in real life. But I agree, this film definitely is definitely the best in it‘s genre.

I think this might be the only movie I've ever really liked Kevin Costner in. James Earl Jones was fantastic, as was the actress who played Ray’s wife. Little Gabby Hoffmann was adorable and Ray Liotta did a great job as well. I really enjoyed seeing an old Burt Lancaster as Moonlight Graham. It took me years to recognise him but his character broke my heart when he made the choice to save Karin’s life even though he wouldn’t be able to return to the game.

The final scene is so beautiful and touching. Ray being able to finally “ease his father’s pain” and getting to play catch with his Dad one last time was lovely.

Burt Lancaster!!. Yes!. He was great, and his parts were some of the best moments in the film I thought. I loved it.
