It's a good thing he did. John originally wanted to keep it within his core group of actors and originally asked Anthony Michael Hall, or AMH was offered it at least.

Watched the pilot for the TV show for the first time since '90 or so. I immediately remembered the opening credits and his moves. They changed a lot from the movie. It took place in Santa Monica instead of Chicago. Sloane was new and not with Ferris. He was trying to court her. The parents had different names.

What got to me was how it seemed, in ways, like another show that began at the same time called "Parker Lewis Can't Lose", which itself had to of been inspired by Ferris too.
