Family Ties Appreciation Thread



Family Ties is an American sitcom that aired on NBC for seven seasons, from 1982 to 1989. The sitcom reflected the move in the United States from the cultural liberalism of the 1960s and 1970s to the conservatism of the 1980s.[2] This was particularly expressed through the relationship between young Republican Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox) and his former-hippie parents, Elyse and Steven Keaton (Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross). The program won multiple awards, including three consecutive Emmy Awards for Michael J. Fox as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Yeah, they were being released regularly about every 6 months then it stopped. Maybe sales slowed down.

Last night, Alex went out on his 18th birthday, against Elyse's wishes, and one of his friends was his future dad, Crispin Glover!

Alex and his friends were going to a bar in West Virginia. Elyse forbid it, but he snuck out anyways. Met girls there and told them he was a colonel and was invading Canada in the morning. Lol.

Uncle Ned was back last night. He had a raging alcohol problem. I remembered that episode quite clearly. He smacked Alex, and boy did Alex go flying!

That sounds familiar. It has been a while since I've watched.

I believe it. That was a hard episode to watch.

Even when Uncle Ned was at an all time low, he still had good zingers. When he finally relented and decided to call for help, he was like "At least this is a way to meet chicks with a common interest".

Last night, Jennifer was getting her tonsils out. She was writing in her diary in the hospital about past things she had done to her family. She said she had a dream where she woke up after getting her tonsils out. She goes home and finds that no one recognizes her and there was some new girl who took her place and she was really nice. Anyways, that sounds exactly like a Growing Pains episode where the exact same thing happens to Ben. Coincidence, or did GP take the idea from FT?
