Apparently, Mindy Cohn had her own idea for a reboot and even went to Sony with it. When she hadn't heard anything, she inquired about it and that was when she learned the rights had just been snatched up by DiCaprio and Biel's production companies for their own reboot. What her idea was, I don't know.
