Ernie Anderson - The Voice Of A Decade

Ernie who?. That's what most people will say. No one knows the name(or the face), but you will most certainly know the voice. Ernie was the "voice" of ABC and his distinct pipes bring me back to the 80s TV magic almost as much as the actual shows themselves. Here are some promos :

Here's the man himself being interviewed in 1985:

Sadly, Ernie passed away in 1997 at the age of 73. Ernie voiced a generation of kids and people in the 80s. Sometimes, it's that magic voice that gives a show that extra umph. They don't make 'em like these guys anymore.

Cool. I think I remember the voice.

Yeah, I didn't know the name until a few years ago. Once I heard it I was like "that's the guy I grew up listening too on TV!!.". Lol. Seriously, they don't have voices like this anymore.

Am I the only one who remembers this voice?

Not sure if there were ever any pics in the OP. Lol. I'll put some in later.

Melis 06-01-2015 01:06 PM

I don't know him, but I've probably heard it.

I don't think anyone would know the name, but you would the voice if you were around then.

Ernie Anderson recording promos at ABC's post production 6 on their Prospect Studios lot in Hollywood, the same lot where I started working a decade later. Ernie was my mentor, but I think that I made him nervous during this shoot. Ernie was definitely a one-of-a-kind VO talent and was the father of Paul Thomas Anderson.
I hung out w/Ernie starting in '89, and he told me about his one big acting job in Hollywood, appearing in a GUNSMOKE episode in the mid 60's (he said that he hated his performance). I've never been able to find the episode, but you can hear an improvised interview. that Ernie recorded w/the cast at the following youtube clip. It's very funny! -Mark Howell, VO Artist (HowellFilm@gmail.com)

Thanks for that.

Cool, Jen! Thank you!

no clue who this guy is.

Barrybgb 06-02-2015 03:26 PM

You don't recognize the voice? You were probably too young.

GardenSirens 06-02-2015 03:38 PM

I recognize the voice but it just sounded like a few other voice over guys. He sounds like the Price is Right guy

Melis 06-02-2015 08:16 PM

lol

GardenSirens 06-02-2015 09:50 PM

is he the Price is Right guy?

Melis 06-02-2015 10:46 PM

I don't think so.
