Beloved sitcom about wealthy Phillip Drummond who, after his housekeeper passes away, adopts her two children, Arnold and Willis. He brings them from Harlem to live with him and his daughter, Kimberly, in their swanky penthouse apartment.

The show ran 8 seasons and ended in 1986 after 189 episodes. "The Facts of Life" was a spin-off from this show.



The show was known for "very special episodes" that included such topics as racism, illegal drug use, hitchiking, kidnapping, bulimia, child sexual abuse and more.

This show had to be on the of the kings for "very special" episodes. A lot of them were even two parters.

I will never forget most of them especially "The Bicycle Man" which was about child sexual abuse. Plus, the one where Sam was kidnapped by a man who wanted to make his family happy (because their youngest died) and threatened to Sam that he would kill his parents if he told anyone. What a sitcom!

It is. There was another two parter where Arnold and Kimberley were both kidnapped as well.

I believe Kimberly was locked in a room in the guy's apartment and Arnold was locked in the basement.

There was another episode where they were trapped in a bank during a robbery. I think Tootie even appeared in that episode.

Lol. It was the season 3 premiere. A two part episode. Arnold wanted to impress a visiting Tootie with his "riches" when the family goes on a trip. He and Willis go to the bank to make a withdrawl. Mr. Drummond ends up in there too. Tootie was left outside I believe.
