Dark Night Of The Scarecrow(1981)

Synopsis:
-------------------
Bubba(Larry Drake)is a slow, mentally challenged local man, who has taken a friendship with a young local girl. Some town citizens don't like it. When an accident occurs, 4 townsmen, led by postman Otis Hazelrigg(Charles Durning), take out revenge on the culprit, Bubba, who takes refuge in a scarecrow costume out in a field. Once the men take "justice" into their own hands, they learn of the shocking truth. Now, a mysterious scarecrow stalks the 4 men in the small rural town, and another kind of "justice" takes place.

Shockingly, this was a made for TV movie, although you would never know it. It's not gory, but very creepy and suspenseful. The writer and director definitley took a page from John Carpenter's(Halloween) directing handbook. It's a well made thriller with a great mystery. Who is this scarecrow?

The movie has finally been released on DVD this month.

Lol. You never saw it? Shocked!

It's a good little movie. Kind of an underground, cult type thing.

It's not gory though. No swearing or nudity. Aired on CBS. Just a good, old fashioned suspense, mystery thriller.

I like gore here and there too, but it's not always necessary to me.

I can't wait to watch this one again. Just has a great, eerie vibe.

Going to have to see if I can spruce the OP up a bit.
