I've read how some people were upset with the ending of the movie. They didn't like how Ally Sheedy was "seen" by everyone or gotten the attention of Emilio until she became 'cute' after her makeover. What do you think?

I think that's typical of many high school boys. I never thought it was wrong. I just thought it was how many high school boys would have acted.

As an adult I can see why some people were upset over this. She had to change who she was or wanted to be.

That being said society has liked and still likes makeovers. There have been so many makeover shows and there are many makeover segments in other shows. The shows, segments, magazines, etc. keep saying that the makeover is a "positive" thing that "raises" self-confidence. This is the message sent to anyone, regardless of age so I think that the reaction to Sheedy's character after the makeover was "normal."
