Beverly Hills Cop(1984) - The Heat Is On!

The 1984 blockbuster stars Eddie Murphy as Detroit Cop Axl Foley. Foley makes a trip to Beverly Hills to find the killer of his good friend back in Detroit. He joins up with Rosewood and Taggart(Judge Reinhold, John Ashton) and the trail leads them to a well known arts dealer.

I love this movie. I love the 80s action/comedy franchises like this one, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, etc. In 1984, BHC became the #1 movie of 1984, the #1 highest grossing movie of the decade, and the #1 comedy of all time, beating out "Ghostbusters"$234 million to $229 million in the U.S. It lost a few of those titles in 1985 when "Ghostbusters" was re-released in and added on more money, bringing it's total to $238 million, which now made it the #1 movie of the decade and the #1 highest grossing comedy(until Home Alone took in $285 million in 1990).

The movie boasted a great 80s soundtrack that spawned hits such as "The Heat Is On" by Glen Frey, "Neutron Dance" by The Pointer Sisters, and "New Attitude", "Stir It Up" by Patti LaBelle.

I highly recommend that you see Beverly Hills Cop soon, because it is an outstanding movie. What more can you say about Eddie Murphy`s performance in it other than that he was unbelievably great as Axel.

BTW did anyone do the banana in the tailpipe thing much like Axel did with Billy and Taggert?

BHC had quite an interesting origin. The movie was originally going to be a Sylvester Stallone movie. He took the script to refine it and match him more. When he came back, he took out all the humor and added in enormous amounts of action. This would of ballooned the budget and the studio couldn't make the movie on that price. Stallone also changed the name from Axel Foley to Axel Cobretti, so he could be the Detroit City Cobra, or something like that. Obviously, it didn't happen, and Sly was very gracious about the whole thing and stepped away. In came Eddie Murphy. Sly's ideas eventually turned into his movie "Cobra".

It still holds up well. I am going to have a BHC marathon here shortly. I just got BHC III.

Interesting! Yeah, that would have been a totally different film. I can't even begin to imagine Stallone filling in Eddie's shoes for the Axel that I know.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine anyone else but Eddie. Especially Stallone!. Lol.

Eddie Murphy is 50 today.

This is still his best movie in my opinion.

It's one of my favorites of his. I love the scenes with Taggart and Rosewood.

Detective Rosewood: Wow. You know, it says here that by the time the average American is fifty, he's got five pounds of undigested red meat in his bowels.
Sergeant Taggart: Why are you telling me this? What makes you think I have any interest in that at all?
Detective Rosewood: Well, you eat a lot of red meat.

Another great scene is where Axel is telling Lt. Bogomil the "Supercop" story. Murphy apparently ad-libbed the whole thing. You could see John Ashton(Taggart) trying not to laugh!
