80s Movies Getting Sequels/Remakes #2

*UPDATE*

Footloose- Original star Lori Singer recently spoke with Clint from Moviehole.net and said that she has been approached to possibly have something to do with the remake. A supporting role?. Cameo?. No details yet. The same site reports that Kevin Bacon hasn't ruled out a cameo either.

Arthur- This is one being remade now too. *sigh* British comedian Russell Brand will star in the Dudley Moore role, with Helen Mirren playing his Hobbs, the butler played in the original by Sir John Gielgud.

Newcomer Kenny Wormald lands lead role in 'Footloose' remake
by Nicole Sperling

Paramount Pictures has found their Ren McCormack — and he’s no one you’ve ever heard of. Newcomer Kenny Wormald won the role after auditioning against thousands of other hopefuls in a worldwide search. Wormald, a Boston native, appeared in the MTV series Dancelife and recently toured with Justin Timberlake. He will join Dancing with the Stars alum Julianne Hough, who will play Ariel, and Dennis Quaid, who joins the cast in the role of Reverend Moore. Writer/director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) will helm the project that he rewrote after Zac Efron and director Kenny Ortega dropped out of the famed 1980s remake last year.

This could be a star-making role for Wormald, as Ren McCormack was for Kevin Bacon back in 1984. Veteran producer Craig Zadan, who produced the original, will also produce the remake. The movie will feature choreography from Jamal Sims, who most recently worked with Madonna on her Sticky & Sweet tour, and will next work for Neil Patrick Harris on his production of Rent at the Hollywood Bowl.

Says Brewer, “I can promise Footloose fans that I will be true to the spirit of the original film. But I still gotta put my own Southern grit into it and kick it into 2011.”

Paramount has set April 1, 2011 for the film’s release. Production is set to begin in August.

I'm sure it will be "High School Musical" friendly. I shudder to think.

*UPDATE*

Police Academy- This went pretty quiet, but Steve Guttenberg has recently said that writers are now working on the film. Nothing major yet.

Three Men And A Baby- Guttenberg and Selleck are both still adamant that "Three Men And A Bride" is going to happen. Guttenberg recently said he would love to see Dakota Fanning or Miley Cyrus as Mary. "It would be a sure fire hit" he said.

Lethal Weapon 5- Is it any surprise that Mel Gibson is suddenly reconsidering this?. He pretty much refused to do LW5 and said NO. But now, in lieu of everything that has happened with him, he has now opened up talks with producer Joel Silver. Many say this is a good move, but others say it will not help his career as it stands now.

I welcome sequels. I love sequels if they are done right. Hate remakes. They really need to end. The new breed of filmmakers usually know nothing about what made the originals special.

Lol. Not all of them, but some are. Even then, they are usually still fun and entertaining, especially if it's a franchise you love and welcome back seeing the characters.
