| 80's Movies Getting Sequels/Rumors There has been some talk here lately about 80's movies getting new sequels, or re-made, or being rumored/in talks to having sequels. I thought I would make a thread to follow these stories and to start what's going on now. BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 - It appears to be happening for real. There was talk a while back that Eddie Murphy was retiring and that Cop 4 wouldn't be made. That was all nothing, and BHC 4 is happening. Brett Ratner is set to direct(don't know how good of a choice he is, but we'll see). Earlier, it was rumored to be a PG-13 version aimed at a new, younger audience, which infuriated everyone. Thankfully, Ratner said that is untrue, and it will be the R rated film with Eddie in classic form as it should be. Also confirmed a few days ago is that the theme, "Axel F", will also return. No word yet on if any others from the franchise, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, will return. LETHAL WEAPON 5 - Not a whole lot to say at this point, but it was revealed a few weeks back that Shane Black, the writer of the 1987 original, has written a new spec script for a fifth entry in the series. Producer Joel Silver is excited about it, and word is that it is a fantastic script. They say that both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are interested(although they weren't not so long ago!). Early word is that Riggs(Gibson)is set to retire, and he pulls Murtaugh(Glover)out of retirement to help solve one last case before they both sail off into the sunset. GHOSTBUSTERS 3 - The movie no one thought would ever happen, well, may be happening!. A G3 has been rumored for a decade, but things are going forward. Columbia Pictures has hired two producers from "The Office" to pen a new script. Co-Writer/Actor Harold Ramis(Egon Spengler)said, in an e-mail, that he, Dan Aykroyd, and Ivan Reitman(director of both films), are involved as consultants at this point. According to Ackroyd, Bill Murray is willing to be involved in "some way". Rumors circulating say that Judd Apatow("The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up") "may" get involved. There were rumors a month or 2 ago saying that he was doing G3 with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd, and those were dismissed almost immediatley. Now, the rumors may of been turned to truth because of the excitement over it. We'll see. RAMBO 4&5 - Not a Rambo fan, but I have never seen most of these movies. Apparently, Sylvester Stallone was asked for 2 more films, and has already written a 5th and is starting on a 6th. Instead of "war" type movies, they are said to be more "action thrillers". OTHERS - POLICE ACADEMY 8 - Rumored for a long time. Seemed to pick up steam this past winter when a news report said that director Hugh Wilson(PA 1) wanted to use a real life story that happened in Nashville when computers holding political campaign info were stolen right under the nightwatchmen's nose. Lol. Nothing has ever been said since. THE LOST BOYS 3 - Part 2 just came out not too long ago on DVD, and there is word that a third film may be in the works that would definitley be a Corey/Corey reunion. Haim is said to have a real co-starring role in the film opposite Feldman. RE-MAKES - FRIDAY THE 13TH - A new start on the 28 year old franchise will be released in February of 2009. So far, word of mouth is good that this will be a classic Jason film with new twists. Can't wait. MY BLOODY VALENTINE - 3D - Getting even better word of mouth is this film, a re-make of Canada's answer to "Halloween" from 1981. Industry insiders say the 3D used in the film is "fantastic", and that the movie looks really, really good. Look forward to it. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET - Wes Craven recently said at a convention that he thinks the studio has backed away from this project. I hope so. I dug the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, the Halloween one, and look forward to the two I mentioned above. But this?. This is where I draw the line. Even more so since Robert Englund won't be Freddy. You can't have an Indy or Rocky film without Ford or Stallone, and you can't do Freddy without England. Period. | |||

| I would be ecstatic if G3 and LW5 happened. I like BHC, but I am not craving for a 4th one, especially since part 3 was not good. | |||

I love Beverly Hills Cop, but the 3rd one left such a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I would welcome a 4th one if it got back to the basics and was done right. | |||

| UPDATES : LETHAL WEAPON 5 - Apparently, not only is Shane Black writing the new movie, but it is looking likely that he will direct too, replacing LW 1-4 director, Richard Donner. Not sure I like that. I want Donner to direct. It seems that these movies are like family. Most of the same people worked on all 4. Even the very end scene of LW 4, as well as the photos over the end credits, made it seem like this was family. So, Donner possibly being replaced does not sit well with me. It's like a family reunion without Dad. Also, a new detail has come out saying that two NYPD cops feature in the script. They are just waiting for Mel Gibson's approval. GHOSTBUSTERS 3 - Don't know much about what was said, as the interview with Bill Murray was video and those DO NOT work well on my computer. Apparently, there has been some disenchantment among the main players for a while. Murray says that the Ghostbusters wounds are "now healed", and given what one wrote about his brief interview, he may really be involved with the third movie. I am also hearing rumors of a PORKY'S re-make. | |||

| *UPDATE* A little more on the Bill Murray/Ghostbusters 3 thing. He said that getting writers from The Office was a "good start", and that he became a lot more interested in a part 3 once he voiced his character in the new Ghostbusters video game. He went on to say that the wounds from Ghostbusters 2 are healed and that the first 40 minutes of the original was some of the best stuff he has ever been associated with. He even said he was singing the Ghostbusters song to himself walking down the street when he was voicing the video game. So, not only does a part 3 really look like it's happening, but it looks like Bill is onboard, and will probably be more than just a cameo, as some had earlier suspected. | |||

| That's good news. I always enjoyed the first 2 GB movies. I'm glad they think they are pulling away from a remake of NOES....I don't think there can ever be another Freddy. __________________ -Sarah Come visit The 90's board and relive your childhood favorites! | Would be interesting to see a Ghostbusters 3. I'm not sure about remaking Friday the 13th, why not just leave originals alone, Halloween was messed up by this. I didn't even know that there was a Lost Boys 2. __________________ Kimber Ships: Dylan/Kelly, Spike/Buffy, Angel/Buffy, James Bond/Vesper Lynd, Tony Stark/Pepper Potts, Dante/Lulu, Danny/Michelle, Tony/Marah, Sonny/Claudia, Danny/Samantha, Damon/Elena, Rafe/Sami, Christopher/Adriana | |||

| unfaithful - There's only one Freddy, and if Robert Englund isn't wearing the glove or sweater, then it's nothing more than an imposter. Lol. Marki - It's really good. I like all the others, but there is no movie if there is no Bill Murray. DefLeppardFan - I agree about leaving originals alone, but I am quite excited about the F13 reboot. I am a fan of the series, but since Jason is here in all his glory, it doesn't seem like a re-make. It almost seems like another sequel in a way. I also kind of liked the Halloween re-make a bit. Lol. Things I would definitley change, or not have in at all, but I enjoyed most of it. And yeah, The Lost Boys : The Tribe is what the sequel is called. Direct to DVD. Came out this past summer. Haven't seen it yet. Corey Feldman is supposed to be really good in it. Hope to see it soon. | |||

| UPDATE : GHOSTBUSTERS 3 - I didn't see it, but my Dad told me that Bill Murray was on The Today Show a few days ago promoting "City Of Ember", and he apparently said that they are going to do Ghostbusters 3. It already seemed like it was happening already, but it was nice to actually see someone, let alone Bill Murray, actually confirm it on TV. Anybody see it?. | |||

| *UPDATE* LETHAL WEAPON 5 - Actor Columbus Short, who appeared in "Stomp The Yard", has confirmed that he is up for a role in LW5. He said that the role is that of Nick Murtaugh, the son of retired Sgt. Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover. He also said that the movie is on the "Fast track" at Warner Bros. Also.... THE THING - I read a week or two ago that a prequel might be in the planning stages for the 1982 classic, The Thing. It would explore just what it is, how it came to be, and how it got to the first film's location. John Carpenter is talking about it, so it sounds like he may be involved in some way. | |||
