1980's Children's Books

Since there's a teen book series thread for the '80's I thought I'd start a children's book series '80's thread. For those of us who weren't teens in the '80's. I wasn't a teenager until October 1991.

Some childrens' books/book series I enjoyed during the 1980's:
Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys
Ramona Age 8
Judy Blume Series: Fudge, Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing, etc.
The Babysitter's Club
Curious George

What childrens' books or series of books did you read during the '80's

I adored Judy Blume when I was younger.

This is probably younger than what you were intending, but I had a nice collection of Little Golden Books. I really wish I had kept them. I managed to find one book that I enjoyed as a child at a second-hand store.

when i was at school in their eighties the most in-demand book was the pop-up book Haunted House. it rocked :) one of my older cousins gave me the judy blume book 'forever' which i thought was absolutely filthy. i hid it under my bed so my mum wouldn't see it and tell me off about ralph lol

I don't know if I have ever read any Judy Blum books? I can't remember any anyhow.

I guess most stuff I read was first released before the 80s but I either read or reread stuff like C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, the Enid Blyton books and similar. And I enjoyed books where animals played an important part. For example, I adored Elyne Mitchell's series about Silver Brumby.

I read several different series of books. The Girls of Canby Hall, Junior High, the Ramona series, and several others I can't think of the name of. But I loved TGoCH, I read every one of those books. They were all the same, but it was fun for me.

I read a lot of Judy Blume, the Ramona books, the Babysitter's Club, and Camp Sunnyside Friends. Those are great books and each of them hold a special place in my heart.

I loved The Babysitters club...I collected so many books.

Which books did you like, Claudia? :)

I'm really trying to remember this particular author I liked. I want to say her last name is Sachs.

I liked the Ramona books...and the Judy Blume books.

then I graduated to VC Andrews...;)

LadyZ 02-26-2005 12:47 AM

Hehe...and then from VC Andrews I moved up to romance novels. :roller:

m&m fkan 03-08-2005 03:28 PM

I am still totally addicted to VC Andrews....even though she's been dead since....a..long time ago.

I had a VC Andrews 'relapse' or whatever better word I should call it last summer, and I reread the series about Heaven.

LadyZ 03-10-2005 11:32 PM

Isn't it amazing there are still so many books of VC Andrews? Lucky for us.

I've only read the Flowers in the Attic series. Which series should I pick up next?

Inner Fantasy 03-10-2005 11:59 PM

The Heaven series (I know that's not the real name, but my brain is fried crispy, sue me) and the Ruby series are worth a read. Heaven was the last series the genuine Virginia Andrews actually wrote.

Creepy stuff. Messes with your head, I'm tellin' you. :loopy:

LadyZ 03-11-2005 10:53 PM

Ooohhh. Sounds good. I'll swing by Borders and pick that one up. Has someone else been writing under the pen name of VC Andrews?

*Maxi* 03-13-2005 09:50 PM

Yup, some ghost writers. I know I read about it, but it's several years ago so I'm a bit fussy on the details. Can't recall if they just reworked and finnished her unfinnished stuff when she passed away or if they came up with all the ideas themselves.

groovyk1 03-14-2005 03:53 AM

I'm still trying to find my original copy of The Enchanted wood...I hope it hasn't got lost.

LadyZ 03-15-2005 11:28 PM

I haven't heard of that one, Maxi. Good?

*Maxi* 03-15-2005 11:59 PM

A bit formulaic if memory serves me correctly. I can't even recall the name of the book(s) written after her death. I should reread them in order to really recall.
