I'm looking forward to this episode already.
These Emojibots reminded me of those robots in "The Girl Who Waited". __________________

That episode started very very well in my opinion then kind of fizzled out? I loved the idea of the emojis in the back and how you had to stay happy and the fertilizers (that was dark ) but the ending was just not satisfying. It was oddly similar to "Passengers" with the whole spaceship with the colonists inside.
I mean the doctor letting the humans live there, hoping that the humans will be kind to the robots when the humans say "they killed our friends". Even the doctor compares the Vardies to Indigenes and he suggests to them that they play nice? I'm gonna assume the doctor never learnt about colonialism or he would know that as soon as they learn the things they need to from the Vardies to live on this planet, they will either destroy the Vardies or oppress them in some way. So yeah all of that indicated to me that the ending wasn't well thought through? Also, there's a massive plot hole : how , if that "grief tsunami" occur in one morning, did that woman at the beginning knew that they were supposed to keep happy? Like that first person died, then that second then that third.... all in morning and in one morning she figured out the solution? That's a stretch. The writer was the one who wrote the trees episode which was... ugh. Anyway... i'm still curious about the vault and why the doctor would make that promise and to whom he would make such a promise. __________________

Good ep but I agree, it kind of fizzled out in the end. And I'm not a fan of re-booting everything to make it all better. This is S5 all over again (but S5 was actually one of my favorite Moffat seasons).
However, I like the idea of the emojibots and the mood patches in the back. I kept laughing at how moody the Doctor's patch was. It's eyebrows were always furrowed. I was very confused with the mythology of this story so I think I will have to re-watch but I kind of feel bummed that if this was what the future is for humans, then we're forced to 'work with' robots and this is also like some form of slavery. I'm gathering that the dead woman that Bill saw was the first to feel grief so she died and because of her death, the rest followed? Bill said the deaths all happened on the same day. That's really messed up. __________________

Okay good. I don't really want a DW ep to be stamped with "slavery" on it.
Overall though, while it was a slow episode, it was still good for me. I do have to hand it to 12 and Bill's dynamic which I'm enjoying a lot on the show. Preview for next ep is my favorite era so I'm excited. Btw, I had a hoot when Bill discovered the Doctor has 2 hearts. __________________

Probably not what I was meant to take from the episode, but the robots were cute
Aside from that, the conclusion, for me, was too easy. Pressing the reset button... I want long, complicated solutions |
