That's a good point about the writing. Take Mel as an example. Thanks to the writing, she is regarded as one of the worst companions in the shows history (with perhaps only Adric & Dodo being generally considered worse). However, those that listen to the Big Finish audios, will know just how likeable a character Mel could have been on tv, if the writing of 198/7 had been better.

I'm not sure if that was on purpose with Danny because they were going to kill him off but yeah, he could've been written better.

It didn't even make sense, tbh. He sacrificed himself to save the kid and asked Clara to take the kid back to his family... a family that knew he was dead...

Yeah it was just badly written. I wasn't spoiled about his death and yet I wasn't even sad. I just did not care for the character at all.

It's a shame because it could have been impactful, but how on earth do they think that boy's family would react when she turned up with the son they knew was dead?
