David Tennant was born David John McDonald in West Lothian,
Scotland, to a father who was a Presbyterian minister. When he was about 3
or 4 years old, he decided to become an actor, inspired by his
love of the BBC show "Doctor Who."

He was brought up in Bathgate, West Lothian and Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland
and was a huge fan of the band The Proclaimers. He attended Paisley Grammar
school and while there he wrote about how he wanted to become a professional
actor and play the role of the Doctor in "Doctor Who."

He made his first television appearance (which was also his first professional
acting job) when he was 16, after his father sent some photos of him to a
casting director at Scottish television. He also attended a youth theatre group
at weekends run by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD -
now renamed the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland [RCS]). When he was 16
he auditioned for and won a place at the RSAMD; the youngest student to ever
do so, and started as a full time drama student when he was 17.

He worked regularly in theatre and TV after leaving drama school, and his first
big break came in 1994 when he was cast in a lead role in the Scottish drama
"Takin' Over the Asylum." He then moved to London where his career thrived.
Amongst other things, he spent several years as a member of the Royal
Shakespeare Company, and became famous from his lead roles in
TV dramas "Blackpool" and "Casanova."

In 2005, his childhood wish came true. David was cast to play the role of
the Doctor in the BBC'S new series of "Doctor Who" alongside Billie Piper,
after Christopher Eccleston decided to leave. Playing the Doctor made
him a household name. Since leaving Doctor Who in 2010 his career
has continued to rise, with lead roles in films, TV series and theatre.

How about an update on my adventure through time via reading fan posts in various sites with DT threads?

2nd half of 2013 fan sentiment was very happy because they got to see DT on TV a lot. Doctor Who 50th Anniversary, Richard II, and The Escape Artist.

There were plenty of fan speculation about Gracepoint and the fandom was a bit split on this one and pretty obvious (at least to me) that the North American fans were happier or more positive about the project than the rest of the fandom. There were grumblings over the years coming from the NA fans about the accessibility of David's work because they are mostly UK based. At that time, streaming was just a new thing and David's work cannot always be purchased so easily. Finally, David will be filming an a project in America and will be shown in an American network. American fans were looking forward David appearing in various American shows to promote Gracepoint.

Of course we all know now what happened to Gracepoint. David has not been lucky in any American projects as far as I know. He already had one failed American TV show pilot called Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. Fright Night failed in the box office. I don't think Camping was well received either, was it? Thank goodness for Jessica Jones and Duck Tales.

To be honest, I watched JJ but I rushed through it. Even David's part. I was not a fan at that time. The Netflix Marvel fare was critically acclaimed but a bit too dark for me so I only watched the first seasons. I plan to remedy that by watching JJ again and paying really close attention to Kilgrave. For science.

David played villain roles before JJ. It's just that they were all UK TV or movies with small budgets and even smaller audiences. Except for Goblet of Fire but he was barely there.

See I do get JJ is very dark tbh I only got through 2 or 3 episodes it was to dark and scary for my sister and I but David was amazing in it.

I do remember him in HP it was one of the reasons why I followed him onto doctor who

As thanks, here's a pic that I quite enjoy. IMO, David looked quite delish in his Peter Vincent costume. Hair, eyeliner, leather pants. Some may not like this look, but I love it.
